LB front seal question
When I took the pan and cam gear cover off my LB engine to check things out, I found that a modern lip seal had been installed when it was rebuilt years ago (and not run). The front pulley has a spiral cut in it to work with a rope seal, so I'm concerned that the spiral could wear a lip seal quickly, and oil could leak past through the spiral when it's not rotating. Any opinions on whether I should I go with a rope seal? If so, should the rope seal be put in with permatex or silicone?

Re: LB front seal question
I've never seen a modern lip seal on an LB engine.

Re: LB front seal question
I've used that lip seal with the spiral pulley for years, that's the same seal used in Model A engine all the way to 53 flatheads. Walt

Re: LB front seal question
Walt , where do you buy the lip seal that "You" use ? I would like to try one if you use them.
Thanks Cheers Tony |

Re: LB front seal question
Thanks, Walt! I'll go with the modern seal. KiWinUS, virtually all the suppliers have them available.

Re: LB front seal question
INSTALL SEAL, You have to remove the pan and timing cover. After cleaning the old gasket off the block and cover, install a couple 5/16 studs in the block, smear some RTV in the seal groove in the cover with your little pinky, install the cover gasket on the block over the studs, install the seal in the cover and slide the cover over the snout of the crank, if it's an 8BA engine it's easier to put the seal on the crank over the seal sleeve on the crank put the cover on after. Same on the pan, RTV in the groove. Walt
