Coker classics or Diamondback?

I amk planning to install radials on my 51 Ford.!5 years ago I had a bad experience with Coker radials on my 62 Olds.[the side walls got all lumpy,wore out in 8,000 miles ]I have been running Diamondbacks[with no problems] on my V8 Fords for many years.I like the look of the Cokers better than the Dbks.Have the Coker Classic improved since then.The money is about the same,I just like the looks of the Cokers better than the Ddks.Comment please. If I were you I would call Coker explain your concerns & see what response you get. They know best the problems & solutions & Warranty etc. I wanted the Bias Ply Pie Crust Firestones on my car for what I think is original BEST looks. Having driven my 40 Pick Up 19 years on Radials, My 36 Cabriolet doesnt handle as nice as the PU did but its OK & I think LOOKS GREAT & I expect them to need replacement sooner. Good Luck!

Hey Ken Bull.....what size Rad's did you put on your '40 and were they 16".

I'm also looking at Rad's for my '40.

Actually the 16" rims I got with my 40 PU are on my 36 now since its got Hydro brakes. On the 40 PU I got 15" rims with the same hub style to accept to 40 Hub Caps. At the time I had a 88 S10 Blazer so I used the Goodyears 225/70/15 pulled off the S10 with low milage. I mss the 40#%*@%

I run diamond backs on my 41 ,got about 3,000 miles on them ,the white is pure non yellowing ,the ride is fantastic...would buy them again

I think asking Coker would be a waste of time,what would you expect them to say?I was hoping to find a unbiased[no pun intended]barner with recient Coker experience to chime in.Phil

Diamondbacks hands down. I got the beauty ring on mine and they have sold themselves at some shows. They are a great tire with new technology and after 4 yrs the white is like the day I got them. The only thing I use to clean them is simple green or equal with a soft bristle brush or a rag. Yes they cost more but you know how that goes. I don't plan on buying any more tires for the 37.

I have Coker Classics on my '50 and I'm not happy. I had BF Goodrich Radials at first and they were smooth as silk at any speed. I wanted the wide whitewalls and bought Cokers. They have been rough riding since day one, feel like they have lumps on them. I talked to a Coker rep at Hershey last Oct. and was told that they take care of their customers and he suggested I have them "road force' balancec and send him the results. After having them balanced as suggested, it was found that 2 were way out of the balancing range and 2 were not too bad, but not perfect. I sent the results to the rep and never heard a word since. I put the best tires on the front and can drive it almost satisfactorily. I'll see how it does driving to Tahoe.

had trouble with broken cords in the Cokers they kept bumping down the road. Have a set of Diamonbacks on my 51 Merc, for about 5 years, they work and the white looks great.

I heard today that DB is working on a bias ply looking radial but won't market them until they are satisfied with the quality.

I have Coker wide whites on my 46 wagon. After only about 22,000 miles they had to be replaced. The wear pattern was crazy. I drive my cars so I make sure I keep the air pressure at the 35psi Coker recommends but the outer edges of the tires wore dangerously thin, like an under inflation problem. I talked to one of the people in the Coker booth at Hershey and he told me that "these tires are really not rated for "drivers" but rather for "show" cars". WHAT!! Next time I replace my tires , and by looking at them it will have to be soon, because they are already show signs of wearing, I am going to use Diamondbacks.

A friend also had a wear problem with the Cokers and when he called them they told him the same thing, not for "drivers' but for "show cars". Needless to say he went for the Diamondbacks and couldn't be happier.
