Default Used cam value?

I replaced the cam in my rebuilt engine with a Stipe cam. Now I have a chance to sell the original cam. What would be a fair price? Thanks. Don/WI

You need to measure the bearing journals on the camshaft. When new, the journals measure. 1.559" - 1.560". I do not know what is the serviceable maximum wear, if worn significantly, the buyer's engine will need bushings put into his engine.

It is hard to imagine an original cam having the likely amount of wear on the center journal would have much value. Measure and reveal the size before selling. Good Luck: Fred A

it has value as a used cam if it is in good USABLE condition.

if the bearing surfaces and lobes are within rebuildable spec it has value as a core. and you can not buy an exchange cam without a rebuildable core.
the specs for those should be on a suppliers website.
what the value is? i dont know.

if it is out of spec, give it to the recycle gods.

Most cam shops will not regrind one if the center journal is less than 1.557".

In my mind I see a lamp post for the living room, with an old gear mounted as the base. Could mount the electrical stuff at top with some duct tape. The wife will love it.

Interesting, would like to see a picture of this guy with the camshaft wrapped around his neck after trying to pawn it off on the wife as lamp.

Humans can produce 5 million cars but can’t visualize five million camshafts Ford produced? If a cam is 24” long, Ford produced 1894 miles of camshaft..

Laid end to end model a complete cars would stretch across the country.. 5 WIDE

I changed out my cam last year, if someone wants it I would just give it to them if they wanted to swing by and pick it up, that's the value I put on a used cam...I changed it out for a reason.

I usually carry a caliper at swap meets, but the value to me is the same as above. I sell reground cams, sometimes to people all over the world, and charge them a $35 core charge if they need one. I've had friends give me cores, and usually throw half of them away because of bearing size.

The journals can be sleeved back to standard but it does not become cost effective at
$200 each until the supply runs out.

I gave my used cam away to a guy in our club that rebuilds engines. He had it re-ground. Journals were OK.
