Default What amp battery is best or needed for V8's?

What amperage 6V battery is best suited for 32-41 V8's. It seems to me that the batteries I have are somewhere in the 600-750 Amp rating and somewhat above that in CCA's???

************OR***************

Asked another way, would 360-390 Amps be enough 6V battery for a 32 or 35 Ford V8??

I always buy the highest rated Cold Cranking Amp battery that will fit in the battery tray.

A large displacement engine with a high compression ratio will need a higher amp battery than a stock, loosened up engine.

For my 292, high compression motor, I use a tiny Odyssey PC680. Fits perfectly within the seat pan and turns the motor over without any issues.

I do run 12V, but I believe Odyssey does make 6V batteries. I highly recommend them.

Try an Optima 6V. If the engine won't start, take out the plugs and drive home on the starter. Actually the proper size cables are as important as the battery capability.

I am "TRYING" to do a AS ORIGINAL restoration.......There is an reproduction battery being sold that is very very close to the original BOSCH battery that would have been in my 32 Ford......BUT Its being reproduced for the 50's 356 Porsche/Early VW flat 4 market......THUS lower amp battery (360 amps advertised) for the smaller displacement motors.......I don't want to spend $300 for one IF (and I suspect) that it will not be strong enough to turn over a stock 32 Flathead. That is why I asked about "SPECIFIC" amperage ratings/needs and need a more "SPECIFIC" answer than "optima" and "odyssey" and "Try this". I appreciate the effort....believe me BUT I need confirmation on what I already suspect is OR will be an issue!!!!

By the way I have an Optima red top already. BUT I would really love to have the car as original as possible for concour's judging!!!! This Bosch battery would help with the cherry on the top!!!!

The only thing a reproduction battery is good for is to gut the case and put an Optima in it.

Aren't there companies that have period correct cases with modern batteries in them? I seem to recall that being a thing...

I always heard of at least 1 CCA per every amp draw of the starter

Thanks fordor41, that’s getting me closer to what I am trying to figure out. A lot of the “after market” original batteries will not work in 32’s, the cases are too tall in most cases (no pun intended) to fit a stick 32 Ford. PLUS my 32 AND my 35 are German production cars and would have come stock with Bosch batteries, NOT a common item in the vintage after market. For 50’s Porsche’s and VW’s….yes for Pre War German V8 Fords, not so much

Old Ford Group 1 hard rubber battery cases are getting more scarce by the year. The plastic reproductions were available where a person could put an Optima inside but I haven't seen them for a while and I think they went bust. This outfit makes reproductions with AGM technology but they aren't cheap. https://batterycentralmall.com/produ...rs/fords/ford/

With modern 3D printing starting to come of age, a person may eventually be able to print a case to fit an optima into but some of those early Ford battery cases were small so a person would have to get creative to get it in there.

That’s a neat heritage you’re after. Bosch battery for a German production Ford. I’m not sure about the needed amps, but the really early VW and Porsche scene doesn’t mess around with junk reproductions. If you don’t find your answer here, try posting at thesamba.com
Lots of knowledge there, and I am sure they will sympathize with your early German Fords.
