Default Couple 46-48 Questions

Hey guys, I’m looking to get a couple quick answers for a couple last issues in my car.

There are two holes, one each on either side of the wire harness as it passes through the grommet and firewall. Looks like something is supposed to hold that grommet, but I don’t see any references to anything in the book.

Next is, what size screws are used to attach the stainless trim to the grill bars? They’re small and there should probably be at least 20 of them.

Thanks!

The two screw holes I believe we’re in the firewall stamping from earlier design that were to house a sheet metal cover which I believe was discontinued. The holes in the firewall remained. Here’s a photo from one at the recent meet in Franklin. Not that all those cars are correct as there was a black coupe that had the over in it but I’ve never seen a late 46-48 with them on.

Also, the screws that hold the 4 front bars were a hex type indented head (raised outer rim) . I’ve seen them with slots as well with hex and those without slots. I’m not a judge but have studied and had Avery original super untouched 46 years ago which was and to this day the best unrestored flathead v8 I’ve ever seen after messing with this stuff for 45 years. Lots of good early examples out there so we never quit learning.

On your question of the holes in the firewall, I have them too on my '47 conv. , but they're in a different location, further away from the grommet. As noted above, might be a carry over from earlier firewall production. Wonder if Ford continued production during WWII, using the firewall for military versions of something??
