Default Trailer width for a model A

I’ve not had a model A for a year or so now and keeping an eye out for one.
Just thinking if I find one, I’d like to be able to trailer it home.
Would a 6 x 12 trailer be large enough to fit a coupe?
A larger trailer may be what I settle on, but want to know my full options.

Can’t measure so checking Google..Not really any help.
So what’s the bumper to bumper length and running board to running board width?

Thanks

This isn’t quite what you’re asking, but my Victoria has a footprint of somewhere around 5’ 7” wide and 13’ 3” long (with luggage rack).

Keep in mind that you still have to get out of the car. Easy if it's a trailer with tarpaulin but maybe difficult if you have a trailer with fixed sides.

I use a 6'x12' trailer single-axle trailer as a general purpose trailer for my shop. It has a swinging-down rear gate on the back that folds-up to 90°. If we are loading a complete Model-A with bumpers on both ends, we must load it backwards so the rear bumpers overhang the front rail. If we are using removable ramps, we can load it facing forward.

A FWIW, ...typically speaking, the transmission drain plug is about the balance point on a Model-A.

The general length for the A is about 13 ft. I’ve had guys bring me A’s on trailers with side walls up and it is very close. In fact I have seen guys backing cars off some of these trailers and damage has occurred. I have both open and enclosed trailers and use them both as needed. The open has no sides and is strictly a car hauler style. I prefer that a flatbed style trailer that has NO sides. It is a pain to get under a car on a trailer with side rails.
Consider all the aspects and not just cost .

For what it’s worth a tandem trailer is best. I’m not a fan of hauling cars on single axle trailers. T’s are lighter than A’s so maybe with a T it’s better as they are also narrower.
Try loading your car on the one you want to buy first. See how it goes. I load things all the time by myself. Almost impossible to do in these narrow side rail trailers without a spotter on each side. It’s not with the risk and hassle in my opinion. My open car hauler is 20 ft beaver tail with pull out ramps storing inside the beaver tail at the back. I gave 1k for it used. My enclosed trailers are 20 ft. I like that size as there is lots of room. My circa 1987 one that use to be owned by the T club was 1500 ish and my newer ones were 9k. Lots of used choices out there if you look around. Wether new or used Choose wisely.

I agree with BH, if you just need one now and then the u— haul is a way to go.

Sure, a tandem trailer is better, but we didn't have any trouble hauling our Roadster on a single axle trailer. Had to remove the trapaulin though because the trailer is just a tad bit too small for the A.

I just used UHaul for my A. It was an easy tow. The trailers weigh about 2200 lbs, so not light. Factor that in when you plan for the haul. If I were to buy one, I would probably buy an aluminum one as the max tow weight for my truck is 5K lbs.

Like others, I would consider buying an enclosed trailer, but that is a whole lot more complicated than renting from UHaul. The quality of Haul rental locations is spotty. I was hoping for a little more consultation, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I used U-Haul last summer to go to a Michigan meet. I was truly disappointed with the lack of instruction from U-Haul. I was a total newbie, and the rental agent lied about knowing anything about trailers. All I could figure was he was dodging potential liability if I had a problem later. To know “nothing” about trailers, he “oddly” was able to hook up the trailer just fine to the U-Haul truck I rented with the trailer.

When I got my Model A I rented a U-Haul that worked out well and easy to use. Years later, I bought a 16' tandem utility trailer with a fold down gate/ramp with a front winch to haul a variety of things but also works well for smaller cars such as a Model A.
