Where does the color beak on a two tone fordor?
Can anyone tell me where the upper and lower colors break on the top of the door opening on a 1930 fordor? Is it at the seam between the drip rail and the metal header that makes up the upper door molding? I know the upper door molding was the lower body color when it was stripped but I couldn’t find any evidence of the upper body color.

Window reveals (adjacent to the door glass) are the only lower body color. Upper and lower body colors break at the belt molding ( just below the door handles). The Model A Paint guide or the Judging Standards explain this.

My door jams were painted lower body color above the belt line.

This is the plate off the rear door opening below the upper hinge. The jam color is the lower body color and the upper color breaks at the edge where the nails attach it to the body. It’s chickle and copra originally and the dark green was applied in 1968.

Re: Where does the color beak on a two tone fordor?
Maybe this picture will clarify my earlier attempts to describe my question. I am looking up at the upper front door frame. The outer strip is the underside of the drip channel. The metal plate that butts up to the drip channel was painted (I assume from factory due to finding chickle and copra colors all over the car) the lower body color. I am assuming the break between the two colors as far as the door jams go occurred at the intersecting line of the drip rail. Has anyone else seen this or have a picture to substantiate this??

Re: Where does the color beak on a two tone fordor?
My understanding as far as door jambs, etc. color separations, is that Ford painted the second body color "with the doors closed", so that only those portions that could be seen would be painted the second body color. This would have resulted in only portions of a door post, for instance, having a second body color, and then only in those areas that would have been exposed (interior portions of the same part might have two colors showing with no clearly defined point of separation. Interior "finishing" as such would have therefore been nonexistent.

Thanks for all the replies. Sometimes my brain gets stuck in the nonreasoning gear and won’t function as it should. With the doors closed a can see how the upper body color would appear.
