Model B isert Bearing manufacturer
Hi guys. Here is my problem. I have a B motor that was rebuilt a long time ago and had insert bearings installed on both the rods and into the main bearings. I'm in the process of rebuilding do to a water leak in the front of the block casting. That part has been fixed and I re-sleeved the block back to standard and it has a fresh valve job on a hardened seat set of Chevy (?) valves with adj. lifters. Here in lies the problem: the mains and rods were both shimmed even though they are inserted. The crank is close but to far out to remove the shims. I'm going to grind the crank to the correct clearances but I'm having difficulty finding the correct bearings. The rods are old AER bearings and I have a question in to them if they are still the same as there latest design. The problem is the mains. Other than a small G in a circle. there is a P/N of C3J C . I have no idea who's bearing they are or what they fit to replace them. They used two sets of bearings on the rear main. Any ideas? Pictures show the markings.

AER is a poster on the A Forum and still does inserts. You could try contacting him. Also, post this on the A forum.

Re: Model B isert Bearing manufacturer
Have already contacted AER on the rod bearings as they have their stamp on them. I will put this on the A side to see what info I can dig up.
Thanks! |

Re: Model B isert Bearing manufacturer
measure the bores and see if the AER ones have same bore specs
A listing of inserts used in A,B has datsun/nissan main set -- 6704M ---25,.50..75, .1.00, 1.25mm ---width 1.225, shaft size 2.0005/2.0010, block bore size 2.1460/2.1465 --as insert that can work , but that doesn't mean that is what you have, bearing catalogues list bearings by size, measure the bore, shaft and look by sie, this is the problem with insert conversions, they are picked by size, some were obsolete long before they were chosen |

Re: Model B isert Bearing manufacturer
Thanks for all that responded. The guys on the A side came up with 65-69 Nissan Truck, MGA 1622 engine from 1955 -66. Also fits Austin A 40 and Nash Metropolitan VP246. The bearing in question was manufactured by Vanderville. The number was superseded by VP817. The Nissan number was crossed to MS10556. The motor was possibly done originally here in SoCal by H&H? I was told that's the way they use to do it in the early days. Thanks again to all that checked out the problem and helped with the solution.

I agree that H&H would recognize your situation. I once opened an H&H B block (years ago). and bearing use exactly as your. I wrote she’ll numbers down back then. Wasn’t thrilled with their methods. Especially , Radii size they used mains/rods. Good luck |

Re: Model B isert Bearing manufacturer
Hardtimes, I sent H&H an e-mail but they may be closed do to the virus? Right now, after understanding what they or someone else did and that some of the inserts could have been shimmed from the beginning, I'm proceeding on a day by day trial and error to see where it leads me. Good thing nothing else is going on. I have lots of time to experiment. Thanks for your input.
