Anyone have a pattern for a 34 Roadster dust boot?
I have a 34 Roadster and need a dust boot made, trying to save some dough by patterning it myself, then going so,where to have it sewn. Any ideas?? Thanks

I'm not well educated on the 1934 roadsters but I know about sewing. There may be more than one dust boot in the average early Ford so which specific boot are you referring to?

Making a guess here... The one over the floorboard hole above the differential? If yes, don't need a pattern. More than one type were used, I think the metal ones came later. If you make the fabric one, get some heavy wire and form it to fit. I used some fence wire from one of the builder/farm supply places. About 1/8 or 3/16, diameter. Fashion the fabric for a loose, domed shape. I used left-over top-insert material, as suggested by folks on this site. Fold it over the wire, and sew. This is a very close duplicate of the factory original. 'Course, if I've guessed the incorrect 'boot', just ignore/delete.

You should be able to find some photos of how they are made on line or perhaps is some restoration manuals like the EFV8 club sells. You can make a pattern from paper using your installed top as a guide. Last edited by rotorwrench; 10-12-2018 at 03:56 PM. |

You could get a copy of the original engineering drawing for it armed wlth the part number (it's in thee body parts catalogue) from the Benson Ford Research Center in Dearborn. It would be hard to beat that for originality or accuracy.

Re: Anyone have a pattern for a 34 Roadster dust boot?
I needed one for my roadster and one for my cabriolet.
I called Cam at LeBaron Bonney and she sent them to me in about 4-6 weeks. They were half what the local top guys wanted to charge. |

Re: Anyone have a pattern for a 34 Roadster dust boot?
John I have a roadster dust boot that you can borrow and use as a pattern it was make by Lebanon Bonney about 40 years ago and the previous owner of my roadster had it dry cleaned which damaged the boot. The material has an internal I'II say plastic like film for water proofing which after dry cleaning made the boot some what stiff. It didn't shrink or change it's size in any way it just doesn't have the same feel as my replacement boot.

Re: Anyone have a pattern for a 34 Roadster dust boot?
Hello Steve, great to hear from you. It has been a long time! I bought a twin to your Roadster! Yes I would appreciate borrowing your back up boot. I can test fit it on ,y car, then have one made for myself. The car won’t be here for about ten days, so we have some time. Of course I will pay for shipping it out to me.
Please note I also need a pair of 34 horns. Thanks! Jd |
