Have you removed the wheel and the brake drum/hub assembly from the spindle yet?

Then next you would take the cotter key, nut, off the brake wedge at the bottom of the backing plate. Remove the wedge, and the long brake pin will be floating around and usually drop down when you remove the brake wedge. comes down through the spindle. Then remove the 4 cotter pins, and 4 castle nuts holding it on. Depending on your wrench set up, some bolts can be kind of tricky to get to. Just takes patience and you will need to hold the heads of the bolts from turning as well. then it should come off. There will be a little felt washer, between the backing plate and the spindle.
