Default Shock ID

Going through boxes of used model A parts in someones garage I came across these. Complete set of 4. They were very dirty and oil stained so I assumed they were good for possible rebuild. Got home and cleaned them up and found they are like new. Either NOS or rebuilt. My car is not a show car and will never be one but is my almost daily driver weather permitting. In the book of judging I could find no reference to these markings. Can anyone shed light on this?

Well it’s not a 31
With the script and non-indented cover its likely 28-early 29
Don’t think it’s a “Pete” reproduction
Pull the filler plug and see what might pour out
Is the shaft free? If you loosen the adjustment (counter clockwise I think) does the shaft turn in both directions; tighten down does it lock in one direction?

As they say “after further review” I looked it up and those are Pete shocks
They say Chicago instead of Buffalo. They did not have a good service record

What you have is a set of reproduction shocks. Since you have no interest in showing your car, they should work for you.

I think these were a aftermarket shock produced in the 70's I believe? I've seen them before and have some literature on them that I can't put my finger on at the moment. I think they have been mentioned on the FB in the past. They look official

Found a post on this forum from 1981 about these shocks. Also in the posts that followed was a copy of the add for the shocks. They were made By Antique Auto @ Parts by Pete. Also known as Peter Buciak"Vendor". A set of 4 with arms, links and hardware was $210. There were reports that they were junk and also some who stated they were good and lasted for years. As I paid $50 for the box I guess I didn't get stung too bad. They are unused and all seem to work. May try them out come spring. Thanks for your replies. Next time I will check the forums for info before posting

Ordsgt , , I have had the same set of shocks on my car since the early eighties. They have been ok and still don't leak .The curiosity for me was the 2 piece needle valve . Not sure how it works , but adjusting as per service bulletins works.
