Default Parking brakes

Hi gents-

I'm having trouble installing new parking brake cables on my '48 ford.
The rear cable (loop) will not pull forward enough to fasten to the front cable.
Any ideas?

under the dash on the parking brake handle is an adjuster-loosen up this clevice, usually gives enough slack to be able to connect rear cable-then when rear cable stretches you may need to adjust this clevice

Perhaps these photos will help. I find it easier to adjust the clevis under the car when reassembling, if needed. This assumes I did not first "mess with" the clevis under the E-Brake handle. Here's how to adjust the E-brake according to the manual. See post #3.

OK 19Fordy--tighten up that jam nut on the clevice, the threads will thank you.
The old cables stretched out so much that both ends of the dash to rear cable was adjusted tight on both ends to take up this slack and also to compensate for worn linings. when new non stretched cables are installed then you will need to loosen up the adjustments on both ends of this cable. just did so on a 1940 sedan

I had a similar problem. I replaced the cable from the dash to the rear cable but the rear cable was not long enough to reach the "U" bracket on the new front cable. The rear cable was also frayed where it went through the "U" bracket. Instead of pulling the rear wheels to replace the whole rear cable I just cut out about 4' of the rear cable including the frayed part and used cable clamps and a 4' section of new cable to replace that section only and at the same time made it longer enough to reach the "U" bracket. I have no idea why there was a gap between the two cables. ??
