Default '48 ford rear axle disassembly

Hi gents-

How far can you disassemble the torque tube and banjo assembly without
disturbing the initial setup? I'd like to at least remove the torque tube
for sand blasting and resealing. I do not want to get sand in this thing-

I think about all you can do is unbolt the torque tube from the banjo without disturbing the "set up.' Anymore than that and you are asking for trouble.
However, I don't think it's worth removing as you can just as easily sandblast the torque tube when it's attached to the banjo. I would recommend placing a large soda bottle over the transmission end of the torque tube and tape it up really good. Then tape up each brake drum where it meets the backing plate so sand won't get inside. Then you can sand blast it all nice and clean. No need to remove torque tube unless you are planning to rebuild some part of it, etc. When I sand blasted my 40 did many years ago I left driveline assembled. No sand got inside the drive train and finished it up with hand scraper and wire wheel. Make sure you pressure wash away all the sand.
