I drove my 39 Mercury Coupe from Atlanta to Coeur D'alene Idaho in 1992 and back after the Western National. Talk about a case of numb butt. Ouch. I got my cross country driving bar though, and am proud of it.

Small world. My Nephew was just visiting and lives in Coeur D'alene and said I should come out for the car show sometime.

Re: 2900 miles in 4 days..........
I'm not good at math .......... but ..........Dickie doesn't go anywhere at 50 miles per hour. His 32 is set up so that 2200 rpm in overdrive is 80 miles an hour. If he ever went slower than 70 it was a mistake ! ..........you can bet on that.............

Re: 2900 miles in 4 days..........
A buddy of mine and I drove straight through from Dearborn, MI to Atlanta, GA one summer. 39 Ford coupe and 39 Mercury coupe. 800 miles, 18 hours. Average 50 MPH which is darn good even for modern vehicles. Fairly leisurely breakfast and lunch. When we got to Knoxville, TN we decided we were so close to home we would just drive on through. We drove 70 MPH most of the time, except for potty stops. Not too many white knuckle moments. lol

For what its worth in the book " The Lincoln Highway the mainstreet across America" byDrake Hokanson A Louis B. Miller in 1931 drove , dare I say it a Plymouth, from San Francisco to New York and back in 5 days 12hrs 9 min. That's 2 lane , small towns and all. Talk about buns of steel.

Re: 2900 miles in 4 days..........
I made it to LA and back to Virginia total of 6100 miles with only a broken brake shoe return spring and a couple of loose lug nuts. Took less than 4 days to get back. 44 total fuel stops for $1700 fuel cost. Thanks to Neal Jennings for an excellent steering box and to Gene McKinney for helping build a solid old 3 window. Plus thanks to several west coast rodders for their moral support.
