Re: Hi Compression Heads
What are you after? Snyder sells 2 stock looking heads, and I sell Winfield heads, B heads, Thomas heads (iron), and I am soon to be in the testing phase of my new stock looking crow's foot chambered head. The Winfield heads can be made with original 6:1 chambers, or 7:1 crow's foot chambers. The Thomas aluminum I sometimes have blems that I can sell. They are 7:1. All of my heads are machined in the same machine and fixture that I machine Snyder's heads in. PM me and we can talk. Tod |

Re: Hi Compression Heads
Tod, i currently have a Snyder 6.1 head and I am very happy with it.
What would the HP gain be for me to go to a 7.1? Would I still use the lowest octane? What is the cost? |

Quote:
1)The gain will depend on current H.P. but you would be safe to assume around 4-5%. 2) Cost depends on what you are after. Tod |

Re: Hi Compression Heads
Snyders 6 to 1? When a new winfield red head is being made?truly one area where a few bucks more makes a big difference..no,you won't bang out your babbit or need high octane fuel..a B cam and a mechanical advance distributor? Single downdraft stromberg or holley?hell yes, maximize effciency and power output..a cooler running more powerful engine..

Re: Hi Compression Heads
Engine performance is a balance, fuel air compression and exhaust, they all work together to yield best results.Feed enough fuel with proper cam, mechanical advance timing and exhaust, the 6 to 1 head will out perform a 7 to 1 head with an A cam, stock carb and manual advance timing..

Re: Hi Compression Heads
I don't agree that a 6:1 will out perform a 7:1, makes no sense. More compression and a bigger carb are the quickest, easiest and least expensive ways to increased power.

Re: Hi Compression Heads
My point is a tuned 6 to 1 with a b cam, downdraft carb and mechanical advance distributor will beat a stock A with a 7 to 1 head on it...Apples to apples I agree with you,but the real gain is in the sum of the parts

Re: Hi Compression Heads
What’s a b cam? I’m a newbie. And very little mechanical knowledge.

32-34 ford model b engine camshaft. Its a superior camshaft for performance next to a stock A cam. Mr Brierley is a camshaft grinder, author and speed legend, Im a ham and egger...

Re: Hi Compression Heads
Snyder's called me today and wanted to know if I still wanted a 6:1 head. I said sure, send it to me so I should get it Saturday or Monday. Cool that they didn't forget I was on the waiting list. Now, which car do I put it on and which one gets the Lion Speed Head? I guess the Huckster will get the Snyder 6:1 head since I just installed a Borg-Warner overdrive in it. It could use more horsepower to pull that gear.

Re: Hi Compression Heads
Installed my Snyder 6:1 head. My engine is .100 overbore so the compression ratio will be a little higher than 6:1. Does anyone have an idea how much higher? Where should I keep the timing? About 24-25 degrees?
I had a hell of a time getting this thing started. Finally ended up removing the B Distributor and carb and installing the A Distributor and carb. Got it all running and starting. Now I will re torque the heads tomorrow evening and run it some more. Last edited by DBSHELTON; 09-24-2020 at 08:46 PM. |

Re: Hi Compression Heads
On my 6.1 and bored engine I time as usual and put the advance lever at about 3:30 and its happy.
