Default Model T Haven

I was wondering how many here, (beside me) are as excited, & a little saddened by the monstrous liquidation sale in Iola Kansas nov. 16-17? I bought a few used model A roadster pieces from them, & was pleasantly surprised that the description of what i would get, didn't do justice to parts i received. Should be plenty of treasures buried in the piles i see in the listing

A sign of the times. My town of 75,000 had 15 Model T Fords 10 years ago. Now there are none. Even the A’s are dwindling fast. The hot items now are 60 and 70. Unfortunately the lack of interest lowers the price of those for sale. At car shows I attract the retiree crowd, the middle aged walk right on by.

He is moving to Florida and going to change his business model. He will still be involved with antique cars, just going in a different direction.

Most will go for scrap metal. All the large Model T vendors are in their 70’s and 80’s with no interest by younger members. Like auctions of the past the auctioneer will spend less than 2 minutes at each large pile and most will be loaded into scrap trucks and gone in a week. Sorry to say but 95% of this Model T treasure will not go to the few Model T enthusiasts left.
I’ve been to two large auto parts auctions and they don’t go like most people think they do.
The place was up for sale for a few years with no takers…

I can't disagree with any of the above comments, it's sad to see a collection being sold for scrap, that is the problem with so many salvage yards when the owner needs to move on due to age or a property sale it's as if the vehicles could have been left for individuals to recue in the first place. A friend recently watched in disbelief at an age old salvage yard auction this summer where several hundred vehicles couldn't bring a bid & the crusher bought all remaining for I believe $35 each. Perhaps we should recruit Jay Leno to the rescue & convince him to buy a plot in the dry south west to store what remains much like the decommissioned air craft bone yard.

Sad, but the truth might be; the location is out of reach of America's higher population centers where most of the antique cars are, and the world for that matter. As are other yards like this, even with shipping.

Sad to hear about the loss of a valued source of Model T's and parts.
I hope that members are able to get a last chance to make purchases.

Steve

Iola, Kansas is situated between two of the most populated areas in Kansas. When I was a kid, a fellow local to the town in southwestern Kansas where I grew up, had an auction of all the stuff he pulled out of pastures and refuse dumps all over the area. He collected mostly model A & some T stuff and a lot of it was free for his taking as judged by the condition of the items. Folks came from all over Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Colorado to attend that auction. I just wonder if there is near as much interest in this day and age. It would be interesting to know how many folks show up for that auction in Iola. A lot depends on how well it is advertised local to that area.

I'll have to check my lottery ticket soon; if I win I know where I will be spending lots of it!

What is really sad is that a lot of money could have been made if all these items were marked at a reasonable low price while it was a viable business.
