KDL,
Yes a nice addition to the vintage well drilling truck. Great minds think alike. I turned the vice 180, moved it to the left side of the tailgate, found some old bolts, and it is in place.
Sorry the pictures came out blurry??:

Hope things are good in Ford Land!

Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Called my engine shop, to see if he can get the #1 block pressure tested soon. He asked about the crank journal dimensions on a "B". Off the top of my head I told home the mains are 2.000 and the rod journals was 1.875 dia.

In the shop:
Went to Amish steel shop and picked up more trim for the loft. Ordered the white, standing rib steel for the ceiling. Then stopped in Atlantic PA and ordered the 6" wide hemlock for the rest of the walls in the upstairs of the shop too.
Trying to keep things moving. Even if the moves are small. Maple season will be here soon! Sealed the window trim to windows with some clear GE silicone.

Quickly approaching Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for! Turkey is thawing. Looking forward to Cheryl's pumpkin pie!
We have another three weeks and we will have been married 50 years. Amazing she has put up with me for that long!
Regards,
Chris

Congratulations Chris, we appreciate all your stories and sharing your family with us here. For me and my wife we are only 13 years married now. We celebrate with a romantic dinner for two, no kids!

Al, Folks,
Thanks! And that is how we usually celebrate also. This year trying something different. The kids, grand kids, great grandkids and some family, friends and neighbors! Only going to do this once! Maybe Cheryl will be surprised?

This time change and the early nightfall makes me feel its time to turn in at this time of the evening! May just be getting old too?

Supposed to get a couple inches of snow in the Erie area tonight! All the toys are tucked in the warm shop! Took me a year to get the walls framed and in place. Here is a look from a year ago:

Question is there a option to put another mirror on the passengers side door hinge?

Also how do folks use the passengers door with the spare on the truck. I am not sure there is enough room to get gas in the tank!

Regards,
Chris

Chris,

Typically, today's replacement tires are at least one size larger than the originals. That translates into the tire being mounted higher in the front fender well and narrowing your passenger side door opening. Not much can be done about it short of dismounting the spare from the side mount bracket and carrying it around in your dump bed.

An original rear view mirror bracket will fit either side as the hinges are mirror images of one another. The challenge, however, is to find the extended bracket like on your left side. I do not recall it ever having been reproduced.

David, folks,
Thanks on both issues. Yes am considering carrying the spare in the bed. It seems to be in the way most of the time.
The mirror, well it would be a nice addition to the truck.
By the way, on the horn, most folks that hear it get a smile on their face. Priceless!
Off to look at another rare deuce. John K's 1942 coupe.
Regards,
Chris

Corvett8n
Thank you.

Here is a prototype of what the side boards might look like. These are crooked as a dogs hind leg, so not sure they will work? Some wooden posts would be attached and set in the stake pockets. Hobby business name/ logo on the side boards. Well its a concept.

Chris

David, Folks,
Thank you sir.

I went into the big town of Albion today with the 32, to visit John K. and his 42 Ford Coupe Project. John and I solved most of the world problems. He has a accumulated lots of nice parts for this car. It is very soild for 80 years old. Normal dents and dings. His goal is kind of like what most of us start with, brakes, engine, transmission, get it running moving and stopping. Then evaluate the next moves.

On the trip to his place the truck got lots of looks from the town folk! Going down was fine. Coming back up, I had to stop on two small hills and get down into second on one and third on the other. Was a little awkward, but having driven tractors for years it wasn't a huge deal. Made it home and Cooper wanted to go for a ride. We stopped at a neighbors and he took a couple pictures of us.

Was a good day, Temp was right around the freezing mark. Roads were dry. Looking forward to some short trips when family is here for the holiday.

Regards,
Chris

Ford Folks,
Not much happening here as I helped Cheryl with making pie crust for her homemade pumpkin and apple pies this evening. Smells just wonderful. Family will be here all day tomorrow for turkey dinner and all the fixins! Deviled eggs, German Potato salad, Mashed patato's and turkey gravy.

The weather was cool but the roads were dry so a great day to take the 32 down the back roads to the 150 year old hardware store to get some screws and a tool to get angles for my trim work. A guy came out of the store and his jaw dropped. He thought the truck was amazing! Well worth the trip in the ragged ol truck!
It preformed fine. just need to remember to move the turn signal switch back to the home position. I love those arrow shaped turn signals! I used the headlights while driving. With top speed being about 35, I have a lot of folks come up on me pretty quick. Nice to have the rear lights working! All systems are functioning. Meeting most of my initial expectations for the truck in this time frame. By the way these are very noisy in the cab, Lots of rattling, engine noise, exhaust noise, and some wind coming in all the cracks, to the point I can't hear that great horn when rolling along!
I am planning several rides in the truck as both boys are going to be home tomorrow. Maybe I will just get some pictures as they do the driving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all in Ford Land!

Regards,
Chris, Cheryl and Family

Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone on the Barn. Keep the pictures coming.

We too will get to see all the kids and grandkids today. The '35 will stay parked but I'm sure a tractor or two will somehow get into the mix.

KDL, folks,
Tractor pictures are always welcome too. We have enough we could start our own tractor ride!
I am just going to pick out some random pictures from a while back.
Here we are harvesting ear corn at the local tractor club grounds:

One of my Allis tractors, New-Idea single row picker and gravity box:

Catching a swarm of bees:

Bringing a Yost vice back into service. Several items were broken. It is working well after repairs:

Allis F40 forklift saved from the scrapper and put back in use. Its a real mosquito killer! But does the job. Every hydraulic cyklinder on it needed replaced or rebuilt. There are six including the brake system:

Great Granddaughter and me making syrup a couple years ago:

Her Dad Mike filling a jug with Golden Delicate maple syrup at the evaporator:

Maple syrup samples from each boil. Lightest syrup we had made in 20 years:

Four generations relaxing while we make maple syrup:

Buzzing slabs for making syrup. About 5 cord on hand to make 150 + gal of syrup:

Thge end result!:

The old man with a big log at the sawmill:

My other old Ford:

We pull tractors too. Nic on his Great grandfathers WD:

Me ready to pull the D17 in the 5000 lb class:

Chris

That's some nice looking maple syrup! Reminds me when I was younger, my dad figured it would be a good idea to tap this maple tree we had in the back yard. We collected the sap and processed it, it turned out to be the most terrible, woody tasting syrup I've ever had! Enjoyed some fun and laughs regardless....miss those days.

My folks make some syrup off of the maples here. About 150/1 gallons. Evaporation method controlled will certainly help to not burn the boil. So good.

Dig you have bees also. Do you winter the queen?

Some might call you a hippie. I'm guessing practical. Good stuff.

Will, tinker, folks,
Humm? Not sure what happened to your maple syrup flavor? You better try that again. Another good clean hobby to keep the old men busy!
Tinker, do you mean your ratio of sap to finished syrup is 150gal of sap to a gallon of syrup? If so those are not the sweetest trees. Ours are about 48 gallons of sap to 1 gal of syrup. That's 2% sugar content on the sap from the trees.
Sorry to go way off topic here. We have 2 inches of fresh snow today and the 32 rests in the shop. It may not come out and play.
The hippey thing, well I did live through that phase. Was more on the fringes.
Yes I had bees. Our daughter has 5 hives, we don't do anything to them for winter. Losses have been very bad for the last several years. Having to rebuild the apairy each spring with new colonies of bees and queen.
Regards,
Chris

We I lived outside of Philadelphia when I was a kid we had several maple trees in the front yard. One winter my dad, a chemist by training decided to tap the trees and make maple syrup. Apparently they were the wrong type of maple from what I remember. What I do remember is that nothing edible was produced. My sisters and I still joked with my dad about it up until he passed at over 100.
