Re: 1934 Car Wooden Toeboard
It is interesting reading about the Wooden Toe Boards used in American 1934 Fords. In Australia, unlike in USA, our 1933 and 1934 Fords had all Wooden Floors. The only steel part was the part under the rear seat. There was a large removable Wooden panel on the floor in front of the drivers seat, so that you could remove the Battery. The Toe Board was also wooden, except for some reason, the 4 cylinder models got Steel, as per attached photos. The two photos show the top and bottom of a RHD 4 cylinder 1933 Ford. another difference is the small panel that goes around the Pedals. The panel on the "4" is different from the Panel used in the V8. Were all Toe Boards fitted to USA 1933 & 1934 Fords Wooden? |

I know that this is not in response to the original question, but I thought that it may be ineteresting to 33/34 Ford people. This is the Wooden Floor, as fitted to RHD Australian 1933/1934 Fords. It is made from 5 Ply, and when it gets wet, it starts to delaminate. Notice the oval Hole and Cover Plate, so that you can inspect the Battery, which is located on the Right Hand Side on RHD 33/34 Fords. |

Re: 1934 Car Wooden Toeboard
The steel ones allow for the extra clearance needed at the back of the engine for the 4 cyl models. There is a shorter trans cover that goes with it.

Re: 1934 Car Wooden Toeboard
gearhead1952, I bought two of Roy's toe boards, for two different 34 cabriolets, and they are of great quality, and fit. The one vendor that I buy mainly from, when I tried to order a toe board said, Ed you do not want the one I sell, it's more for street rods. This vendor told me order one from Roy. E.P.

Re: 1934 Car Wooden Toeboard
The front edge of the floor has a lip that is bent up but doesn't seem to sit flat behind the toeboard. Looks like there is a gap about a quarter inch wide. Is this how it fits? Also should there be a gap between the floor and the bottom of the toeboard?

Re: 1934 Car Wooden Toeboard
Trevor,
With respect, the battery on North American-built RHD '33-'34 fours was on the left side of the chassis and on the right side for RHD V-8s which reflects the routing of the exhaust system (right side on fours, regardless of LHD or RHD, right side on LHD V-8s, and left side on RHD V-8s). Are you saying that the Australian-built fours had the battery on the same side as the exhaust system? That would seem to pose a packaging problem. |

Re: 1934 Car Wooden Toeboard
David, You are absolutely correct about the Battery location on RHD 1933/1934 Fords.
The Battery is located under the Drivers feet on the RHD 1933/1934 Ford with the V8, and under the Passenger's feet on the RHD 1933/1934 Fords with the "four". I asked a mate who owns a 1934 Roadster Ute with the "four". |
