Default Early 28 to late 28 engine swap

Can a late 28/29 flywheel/single diaphragm clutch/gearbox be fitted to an early 28 engine that at present has a multi disc clutch ?

Yes, the flywheel bolt pattern is the same. You just need to change the flywheel, clutch, bellhousing and transmission. The transmission tops will swap over from one to the other.

Also the two pedals since the shaft size is small for the multiplate.

Yup, I thought about that right after I logged off last night. Pooch is down under though, and they put their pedals on the wrong side of the engine so it might be different for him.

If you use the old transmission,, You will need to replace the transmission input shaft and throw out bearing setup.

All of that is true, we are working on the reverse procedure right now. Back in the 60s I pulled all of the multiple disk clutch out of my phaeton I am now rebuilding all of the components and will put it back as we do a full restoration. My wife suggested the phaeton needed a little love since I restored it in 1965 and drove the wheels off of it for 40 years, before sidelining it for the sedan as our tour vehicle of preference.

OK, slight change of tack...

Can I put the entire early engine /multi disk clutch /gearbox assembly back to the universal joint into a 29 ?

And then just change the gearbox shifter plate so as to have the centre park brake ?

The only problem with that is the transmission cases from multi-disk transmissions don't have the four holes in the front face where the front bearing retainer attaches.

Yes there would be four holes to drill and tap. It would probably be more trrouble than it would be worth if you had a later transmission.
