Smile Best Battery for 6 volt?

I am thinking about an 8 volt battery for the truck. With a tender it should get a full charge?
OR is it standard to just use the best 6 volt ? and what brand have you all had good success with?
Thanks
I will just sit back and get an education the rest of the night!!!

I would not recommend going with an 8V battery. Go over all the connections on your vehicle and clean them to eliminate any high resistance connections. If you do this correctly your starter should spin that engine plenty fast enough to start it on 6V's. I bought an Optima 6V red top battery 2 years ago and that's what I would recommend for anyone who needs a new battery.

I have a 345CI/345HP, 2X4 DeSoto Hemi (6V) in an OT car. I have had excellent luck with a NAPA 6V Commercial/Tractor battery...

Optima. It's worth the extra money.

I have 5 antique Fords using 6 volt systems. I get a quality battery from the local Batteries Plus people. They are about the same price as auto parts store tractor batteries but have more capacity. They give good service and last 7 or 8 years usually. Make sure all your connections are clean and brightall the way through the starting, ignition and charging systems and 6 volts will be fine. 8 volts won't work much better than 6 if all the connections are corroded.

I used a 6 volt that I bought at the case heavy equip. center
it was 675 cc amps and the size of the case was just right
for the battery tray on my 46, I would try there, it is the
strongest battery I found.

I would recomend an Optima. They last, they don't loose thier charge over the winter, and most of all they don't spew acid or acid fumes which in my case is very important because my battery is up on the firewall. They also have high cranking amps.
Regards, Don

8 volt is a Band-Aid that will not fix the problem. 6 volt is fine as long as all connections are clean and tight. I have both Optima and "wet” 6volt batteries in use in several of our Flatheads.

Does that price include shipping? If so that is a very good price.

Sure, I ordered it from 4wheelparts.com. $127.99 was the final price and that included free shipping. There was an additional 15% sale on the whole website that expires today or tomorrow. After I found their site I remembered I had ordered from them before. They do a nice job, but if you need an optima you should move quickly!!!!
good luck

Optima or a napa battery.

5 yrs on a Optima. Starting to fade a little. Have to watch it's charge every other week in a car that isn't driven every day.

1st yr napa. I like this battery so far.

If you want to keep that 8 volt battery putting out an actual 8 volts, you have to set up your voltage regulator to about 9.4 volts from the generator. If you leave it at the stock 7.2 volt setting, guess what your 8 volt battery is going to put out! Besides, to get that extra cell in a case the same size as an original 6 volt case, each cell has to be smaller so reserve capacity and cranking amps are less, due to fewer plates in each cell.

I have been using an Interstate battery for 6 years now. No problems and starts right up. Cost was $53 wholesale price.
