Need help identifying these wheel covers
I think the Ford wheel covers may be from the late 50's to 60's but I am not sure. Anyone able to pinpoint the year and model these are from. Thank you.

Re: Need help identifying these wheel covers
These Ford Wheel Covers are correct for the 1955 and 1956 Ford Fairlanes and Ford Thunderbirds and are 15 Inch. They have a small plastic piece in the centre. |

Re: Need help identifying these wheel covers
Looks like 55-56. Is the red piece plastic? If so, quite sure 55-56. Both sedans and Tbirds used the same one.

Just for the record, the 1953, 1954 and 1955-1956 Ford Hubcaps look similar. The above picture shows the 1953 on the right, and you will see that it is smooth around the outside. The middle hubcap is a 1954 model, and has small dimples around the outside. The badge in the centre of these two hubcaps are part of the hubcap and are metal with added paint. The hubcap on the left is the one for the 1955-1956 Fords including the Thunderbird. On this hubcap, the centre piece with the badge is plastic. Hope that this photo and description helps. |

Re: Need help identifying these wheel covers
Also if you ordered a 62 Ford XL with 406 engine, it came with 15 inch wheels and an XL had to come with full wheel covers so Ford used the last 15 inch wheel cover they offered and it is the same as the 55/56 cover.

Re: Need help identifying these wheel covers
I was unaware that these 1955-1956 Ford Full Wheel Covers were used on the 1962 Fords with the 406 CID Engine? I do know that these High Performance model Ford Galaxies for 1963 and 1964 came with 15 Inch wheels and used a Spinner Hubcap that was based on the 1956 Mercury 15 Inch full wheel cover, as per above picture. |

Re: Need help identifying these wheel covers
That's cool, maybe on the 406 XL's it was because they were a springtime model I thought. Who knows what went on at dealers.

Re: Need help identifying these wheel covers
I went chasing pictures of 1962 Fords with 15 inch wheels, and came up with this picture of a 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 2 door Hardtop with optional 15 inch wheels fitted with 55/56 Ford Hubcaps. I don't know if these Hubcaps were officially added by Ford, or if they were the first ones the owner thought could be used with the optional 15 inch wheels? |

Re: Need help identifying these wheel covers
I'm assuming the tri power 390's in early '62 Fords had the 15" wheels also, since the were solid lifter and higher compression engines too (401 HP). The 406 wasn't available until later in the model year.

Re: Need help identifying these wheel covers
A friend bought a new 62 XL Sunliner with 406, said they came on the car. I still have the engine.

The 15" spinner type(s) were used on the 1963 and 1964 FORD HP, the early being chrome ad the later being stainless
