Default 1929 Model A Briggs body pickup, fun trip to Chick-Fili-A

My 1929 Briggs body pickup was used in my daughters wedding, last October. First and second gear was very noisy and the clutch did not engage until almost fully released. A month later I installed a new clutch and a rebuilt Tom Endy transmission. Work seemed to keep me from getting the truck back together.

The private school that my wife works for had an arrangement with a local Chick-Fili-A. The school would get a percentage of every amount spent by any school family member during a certain period of time.
The school families were to meet at the street in front of the school, today at 5pm, with a decorated car. My wife suggested it might be fun to drive the Model A truck. I explained to my wife that even if i got the truck running it did not have glass in the side windows and there was a good chance that it would be raining. Being a good sport, she said she'd still like us to drive the truck.

So, I spent the last week getting the truck back together and running. It was sprinkling when we left the house, but stopped when we arrived at the school.

Going through the drive thru took some time, but Chick-Fili-A was ready for us.

People seemed to enjoy the truck and we had a lot of fun. The clutch worked fine. The Tom Endy transmission worked flawlessly- and suprisingly, the ahooga horn still worked at the end of the day.

It was a good cause. School had been closed because of the Virus, but teachers got to wave to many of their students. Over all it was a great day.

This story reminds me of when my fourth grade daughter had me take our car to school for her show and tell. Teacher brought the whole class out and one by one the kids all took a turn sitting behind the wheel . Years later some high school kid told me he remembers doing that.

I'm not sure what color it is.
The hood and tailgate was painted a Model A color by the previous owner, before he died.
I had the color matched and put into spray cans.
I painted the rest of the body with the spray cans.
This picture shows the truck before the spray can paint job.

Here is a picture of the truck from two owners ago. It was taken in a hometown parade in Cranford, New Jersey, in the late 1960's.

This might be a picture of the truck back in the 1930s.
The picture along with an article was in a scrap book that came with the truck. The truck in the article was used for advertising.
