1940 4 door sedans

1940 Ford 4 door sedans are just about worthless to sell. They are nice for a family and such but to resell they are worthless. JMO They make good donor parts for coupes. I got one and can't sell it at any price.

Well I know my 39 Deluxe four door is not going to become a donor as long as I am alive. I think they are getting old enough that any surviving car should be saved.

I don't mind sedans. They are more practical for my family to enjoy with me. I also think they make great cars if you plan on doing any touring.

They do not command the prices and attention that coupes, roadsters and convertibles bring.

I'm currently doing a restoration (per EFV8 club standards) on a 1940 standard tudor. Crazy? Absolutely, but I enjoy the process and the car.

Well I'd rather have that 4 door than the 2 door. Down here in New Zealand mostly 4 doors and some coupes were assembled here and very few other body styles found their way here . Four doors were our "staple" and while many North Americans may consider them "grey porridge", we love them.

I've owned my '40 Deluxe Fordor for close to fifty years now; it's been in the family since '41 and that's the only reason I've kept it. Have always wished my grandparents had bought a Tudor... if it's a four door build it the way you want, cause no else is going to want it.

Is it a complete car? I see that you have a 1940 Fordor "body" for sale (what happened to the rest of the car?). That might be the problem. If it were a complete car, probably a lot easier to sell. If you have a complete and running 1940 Ford Fordor, then it is far from "worthless."

Yes, there is a wrong-headed mentality among some in the hobby that if the antique car is not a coupe or roadster then the car is "worthless." That is really unfortunate.

I love my fordor. I prefer fordor sedans. Never been a convertible kind of guy.

I have 2 4 doors, a 40 wagon and a 33 phaeton. Not worthless yet!

If it's the ad I saw, it's a body shell . However if the front doors are nice they are worth $500 to the right person.

I clipped a 40 coupe with a 4dr floor and cowl and it turned out nice.

I also use to drive a 40 4dr as daily transportation and it was stock except for the Chevy motor and it was just as fun as any other 40 till it was time to sell it but it was a complete roadworthy car

Nothing wrong with a 1940 Ford Deluxe Fordor Sedan. Check out this beauty. It is the only one that I know of in a city with the population of around two million people. In Australia, only two closed car body styles were offered, the Fordor Sedan or a two door model that we affectionately call Slopers. The trouble with collectors who live in the USA is that they are spoiled with the variety of available body styles that were and still are available. In Australia the Fordor Sedan and two door Sloper were both offered in Deluxe or Standard. In addition, we got a Deluxe Roadster or Deluxe Convertible, both of which were based on the 1938 open car body. The Aussie Ute was also available. Nineteen forty was the last year that we got this choice of different body styles. For 1941, the only body styles that we got Ute that used the carry over 1940 body, or the all new fat-fendered Fordor Sedan. Try finding a 1940 Ford of any body style in Australia these days.They are few and far between. There are even fewer of them in New Zealand, as I don't believe that any were sold because of World War II. Long live the Fordor Sedans, as they are a very practical car and worth preserving.

I like the 40 Fordor sedans. My first 40 I bought in 1986 was a standard fordor . I dragged it out of a barn for the sum of $500. The only rust was in the spare tire well and the tool tray. I restored it and drove it untill 1996 and sold it to finance a new shop when I moved. It was a very early 40, all the glass and all five rims were dated September 1939. Wish I could find it. I know it's out there somewhere.

Hi; I sold a Canadian fordor '40 to a California family man, had 45K original and was judged 'Rouge' interior and mechanical. they are survivors and fun cars. Was Cloud Mist grey [green] and on vets day put on magnetic stars and pretended to be a Staff car. Miss it. Newc.

If you are looking at a return on your investment then unfortunately in terms of restoration costs the fordor comes in between the coupe and the convertible.
That would only affect you if you were hoping to recoup your financial outlay.
If you plan on keeping the fordor for you and your family's enjoyment now and in the future - then no problem.

My wife insists that I'm too old to remember the details, but back in the day, I loved the fact that my '39 tudor had miles and miles of backseat legroom!

I can imagine the convenience. There is absolutely no room in today's sedans, even for commuting.
