Question on front fenders 30/31
I have a 31 tudor in need of fenders. I noticed that some of the 1930 cars used the shorter splash apron and then the nose section that bolted to the front fender and front end of splash apron.
My question is, if I bought used 1930 fenders that used that shorter style splash apron can I just ditch the shorter splash apron and use my full length aprons instead? Thanks in advance! Travis |

Re: Question on front fenders 30/31
yes the early 30 nose section is spot welded to the fender. remove it and use your long splash aprons. the area where the nose was spot welded may need a little work for a good fit but the welting will go there now.

I think you are going to have to drills holes to mount the fender to the long splash apron in the front section ??

Re: Question on front fenders 30/31
As noted, the shield section is spot welded to the fender. Once the shield is removed the remaining flange on the fender is only about 1/2" if I recall correctly. That doesn't leave much to bolt to. To properly bolt to your long running board shield the flange will need to extended over it's entire length and then bolt holes added. There are a couple other small issues but if you can handle the main one then the rest shouldn't be a big deal.

Re: Question on front fenders 30/31
It gets a bit more complicated then just the short flange....
I suggest you take some time to notice how the crease that runs the fore and aft on the mid point of the fender is on the fenders. Some go further down then others. While people might not notice, you may find some other subtle differences in the fenders. Fenders offer some interesting issues so look close. I also would recommend that you read some of my hints for fixing fenders on my website. |
