Question Re: 2019 f150 5.4

It is a 2019. Are you sure of the engine size?

Ford offered a 4.2 litre V6, a 4.6 litre V6 and a 5.4 litre V8 in the F150's of the era.
I bought my 2007 F150 new and never lost a drop of oil. Last oil change was 54K miles in Oct of this year. But I babied it all it's life.

Pull some of the spark plugs and see if they are black and oily. They shouldn't be with only 38K miles. are you sure you don't have a loose oil drain plug or an oil filter that doesn't fit right?

Dave,

If a 2019 and an eight, it should be the 5.0L COYOTE which FORD has had a lot of trouble with. This is not like diagnosing an older engine. One has to know the exact engine and production date to find correct TSB's.

One would also have to know the service history of the truck most importantly what was done for the original engine repair(s).

Frank ~ pretty sure the 5.4 was not offered in 2019; however, I suggest you google “Excessive Oil Consumption in 2019 Ford F-150” ~ apparently, there is a planned (or ongoing) lawsuit concerning this exact subject. It is my understanding, however, that this pertains to the 5.0 Coyote motor. My 2006 F150 is pushing 200k, I’ve trailered my cars all over the USA, and it has never used a drop. It is the 5.4, 3~Valve motor, and like Dave, it is babied with absolute adherence to the manufacturers guide for maintenance. Hope this is helpful.

Slightly off topic, but years ago, I had a 72 Monte Carlo with a 454 auto, and drove it from central IL to MD and back, and it used 13 quarts of oil, without a lot of miles on the car. When I got back, my top mechanic cousing told me to change the valve stem seals to Perfect Circle, and that would fix the problem. It did.

This is a complex issue. Mostly it is being blamed on cylinder liners and piston rings as most having had the TSB performed on the truck saw little or no relief on oil consumption.

Now watch this and it will explain the problem(s) and how this person corrected his oil consumption after having the TSB performed.

Pay close attention to the dip stick description and Air-Oil-Separator INSTALL. Also the PCV VALVE itself.

ADDENDUM -

This TSB was previous to the present TSB but FORD found when dis-assembling return engines, there was no problem with the rings.

TSB 19-2058 01MAR19

Notice where it calls for an updated PCV VALVE - 7L3Z 6A666-A (EV-281)

KULTULZ ~ Very concise description of the problem and solutions; again, I suspect the OP has the 5.0 motor. I’ve searched diligently and can find no reference to the 5.4 being offered in 2019 (but certainly open to have my horizons expanded!)

You know, I believe a lot of this has to do with dealer service department knowledge and attitude. A TECH is trained and certified on varying system(s). There are varying knowledge/skill levels in the shop and your car may be assigned to a tech that is not fully certified in the system you have or may not be aware of the latest tech from FORD.

A dealer may decide to not actually help the owner as FORD has to reimburse the dealer for warranty work and it is limited compared say to a cash ticket customer. The dealer service department may not be up to speed or does not follow FORD service guidelines. And it seems FORD doesn't give much concern either.

In my experience, the dealer doesn't even want to help the cash customer (unless they can fleece him for repairs that weren't necessary). As far as internal service department personnel assignments to do the work, the service manage doesn't really care if they assign the right person for the job. If the repair doesn't work out well for the customer, the service manager's best hope is that the customer will give up in frustration and trade his vehicle in for a NEW ONE. See how it works!

This would look good in a '56 or '57 FORD, even BIRD maybe ...
