Default Engine detailing question 33 Ford

What color is the small flat surface area between the intake and the heads? Thanks.

Tim, as far as I know and remember
it’s bare, no paint

At some point very early in the '33 model year Ford stopped partially masking the top of the block so that the areas between the heads and the intake manifold were painted the same as the rest of the block, characteristic of '32 V8 engine blocks. So, unless you have a very early '33 block with no cavities on the sides of the timing gear cover, the safe bet is no paint on top of the block as Robert indicates.

Thanks. Mine was built July of 33, bare with very slight surface rust. I started cleaning it a few months ago with the intent on clear coating it. I just forgot and wanted to be sure it didn’t get painted.
