Default New Guy

Good morning folks !!! My name is Eddie and I live in Middle Tennessee. Thanks for letting me join the group. I own a '53 Merc', all stock (as far as I know) and I'm trying to get it running right (not much luck there) LOL
I'm an old guy who's new to flathead engines and I may ask a lot of questions because I don't know about things.
Thanks again for letting me in the barn !!!

Welcome Eddie, years ago I had a 53 Merc 2dr ht, yellow and black. Was a nice solid car. The carb if original probably looks like nothing you have ever seen before but as others have stated, there is a LOT of experience within the members here. Ask any question and you will get some answers.

Are you SURE about needing 10 posts to be able to post pictures? I could be full of it (as usual), but don't remember THAT particular rule!

I beg to differ with you here. I have close to 7,000 posts and I STILL can't post pictures. ROFLMAO.

Welcome to the Barn. What problems are you having with your Mercury running right?
Don't listen to people who tell you the factory carburetor and/or distributor are no good. On a stock engine when they are in good condition they work very well.

Welcome to the barn! This is the closest thing many of us have to a filling station for hanging out and discussing our cars (and trucks). And 1953 was a very good year indeed!

Good morning !! 10 posts? I don't think I have enough going on to find that much to say. LOL Just trying to get my '53 Merc running right. There are a lot of videos out there about carburetors, but I've yet to find anything for the Holley 1901-FF teapot. I'm searching for answers to why my fuel bowl drains itself overnight ..... I think I know enough to say that isn't good for my oil !!!

I'm thinking the car had the original carb on it .... it was a mess !!! Holley 1901-FF teapot .. and you're right ..... something I'd never seen before. I got a rebuilt carb for it, but now the fuel bowl drains itself overnight !!! EGADS !!!!

The carb is a Holley 1901-FF teapot ... rebuilt and supposedly "wet-tested" . The fuel bowl drains itself overnight. I can find no videos on this particular carb for trouble shooting. One of the members remarked the other day about a different varb, but same problem .... possible power valve issue? I have ZERO knowledge to work with here.

I have not encountered fuel bowl draining overnight in a 1901. I highly doubt it is the power valve, that is typical of the Chander-Groves / Ford / Holley 2100 carburetors.

If you have not previously come across it this is a great source of information on your carburetor (use the arrows at the top of the web page to scroll through the manual):
http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/Carbs/Holley/H1901-1952/MCarbHoll19011952.html

My memory from rebuilding a 1901 is that there are no gaskets below the fuel line in the float bowl. You have a confusing issue.
