Default B carb question

Never dealt much with B carbs, but have three cores that I want to rebuild. Two of them are almost done. My questions is about he GAV needle. On one of the carbs the GAV needle screws into the sleeve just like the Zenith 1 and 2 's that I have done. One the other B carb the needle hits some kind of spring down inside the sleeve. The spring (which I cannot see) gives abot 1/8 to 3/16" and the threads will not engage. Help? What gives??? kp

There shouldn't be a spring inside of the sleeve. There is a spring down below the end of GAV sleeve, inside the casting. This spring is placed in the casting before the GAV sleeve is pressed into place. The spring takes the place of the elongated "fingers" on the Model A GAV and functions the same way - to keep slight tension on the needle so it doesn't move by itself. With the spring properly in place the GAV needle should easily turn down all the way to engage with the fuel port in the casting.
