Default 46-48 rear gravel pans?

My 48 coupe came with a totally beat 3 piece rear gravel pan. Not really paying attention, I bought a one piece rear pan for it off eBay. It was listed as a "'46-'48" pan.

Did Ford offer different pans year to year on these cars? Will this one piece pan fit my '48?

Thanks, JH

What about 3pc vs 1pc? Did they change year to year?

you may have a problem with it fitting in some cases on the outer edges. There is a set of 3 pieces (each piece is auctioned seperate) on Ebay right now. check it out. 45$ for all three pieces.

I bought a 3 piece gravel pan,and the center section fit well. The end pieces,do not fit the fenders, when fitted against the center section. When fitted good to the fender, there is about a half inch gap between the ends and the center section.I think all I can do,is somehow fabricate a filler strip,of some sort.Anyone else have this problem?

The gravel pans changed when Ford decided to give the '47-'48 a face lift and make it look like a new car instead of the same old model. The '49's were simply not ready as the factories were not ready yet. They tried to give the car a lower stance by lowering the bumpers and relocating the fender trim and front marker lights. The rear gravel pan was supposedly changed to accomodate the lower rear bumper. The bumper brackets have a slight downward bend to them as well for the rear. I have a '47 coupe with the three piece but it is under construction so I regret that I can't say how well the three piece pan fits. I also have a '48 Merc and they had the one piece pan but a different bumper. Check to see that you have the correct bumper brackets and are thus mounting the pan in the correct location.

The rear gravel pans are different, as are the rear fenders and the rear bumper and brackets.

I had a '46 TuDor that had a one piece gravel pan as well as a '48 TuDor with a one piece. Our '47 Convertible has a three piece pan...

The pans on all my cars were/are steel however; my '47 Convertible has an aluminum floor pan while the '46 & '48 had steel...
