1940 Ford tail light bezels
I have a question I hope someone with more 40 Ford knowledge than I have will answer. Did Ford ever paint their 1940 tail light bezels black? And if so which vehicles were they used on? These appear to have been painted with Ford's "dip" process.
I'll enclose a couple of shots comparing an OEM Ford SS with a painted bezel. I've had the black bezels around a long time and didn't know what the story was. |

Could that have been done for the military?

Those were later replacement parts. Ford, OEM probably manufactured during the war years. I have a few of them as well.

Re: 1940 Ford tail light bezels
1938-1940 was not the only years that Ford produced the black rims. I have this ring of one dozen black 1932 rims. The very faint part number seems to be B-1344-B. Does the "B" stand for black ?
At the same time, I picked up three of the 1940 black rims. I still have them. They might look cool on a custom. I believe these are war-time production parts. MIKE Last edited by FL&WVMIKE; 07-26-2011 at 11:32 AM. |
