90 degree oil filter adapter
I have ordered a oil filter kit from Mike's. I would like to install a 90 degree adapter to change the filter mount from horizontal to vertical. The problem is that the adapter is dang near as expensive as the whole kit it doesn't seem to me that one of them should sell for $135 (approx.). I know that they were installed at the factory on some mustangs and such but I can't find a used one. Any ideas?

Re: 90 degree oil filter adapter
The 90* oil filter adapter was also used on some trucks and Econoline vans with the 240 cu.inch six- part number C5TE-6884. Try that number while searching.
These have been hard to find for a number of years and even greasy used ones are often $80-125. Once you dump oil all over your self, front radius rod, garage floor and the engine pans (if you have them) using the horizontal mount and clean up the mess, the price ain't so bad... That's why I gave $75 for one nine years ago. No mess putting a full filter on or taking one off. Sweet! Good luck, -gb |

Re: 90 degree oil filter adapter
Agree with G Baese. I paid $80 after my first oil change. There were also used on 300 ci straight six. Might try a wrecking yard.

Re: 90 degree oil filter adapter
I've seen them at the junkyard where you pull them off yourself for under 25 but it depends on what junkyards are in your area and pricing

Re: 90 degree oil filter adapter
The other advantage of the 90 is that you can fill it full of oil before you install it. You can not do that with the straight type.
The last one I bought was about $125.00 C5TE-6884 does not look to me like it is correct. The correct number is m-6880-a50. Last edited by old31; 04-17-2022 at 11:30 AM. |

Re: 90 degree oil filter adapter
So, I gave in and bought a new one $135. I think that's a ridiculous price for it but yes, I see that the value is there and I don't have time to wait, I want to get it installed before I change the oil. Thanks for the help!

Both will fit the Model A. One thing to watch out for is some of the adapters for Ford sixes is that they 'lean' toward the front of the engine and may hit the timing gear cover or oil return line. Bye... "A" type 90° oil filter adapter Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 04-17-2022 at 04:20 PM. |

Re: 90 degree oil filter adapter
i think that adaptor was used on early 1960s ford 6cyl. Econoline because of the tight engine compartment.
maybe a place to start looking for a cheep one..

Re: 90 degree oil filter adapter
Check Speedway or Summit for adapters and remote filter kits

Re: 90 degree oil filter adapter
I had one from an old Ford truck, it is now lost in my vast collection of stuff. I do remember that there was a special bolt that fastened it to the engine block, if you find an adapter be sure you have the bolt too.

Re: 90 degree oil filter adapter
Check that one closely old ugly. Notice it "leans" toward the front of the engine as Y-Blockhead mentioned in post #9. Notice yours "leans" the opposite way as his does in his picture. Yours will come real close to the timing gear cover.
