John, if it is going to West Virginia, that is a foreign country isn't it!? What about export tariffs??

Just kidding of course!!

Did you inquire at Fastenal? Usually good rates for that type of shipment. Finding a private individual going between two specific places may be like winning the lottery. lol

I've read on a few different forums where Fastenal isn't doing that any more.

I've shipped large parts via Greyhound, but it's been quite a while ago.

I have shipped individual crates using ABF freight. Door to door. Fair price.

I have shipped large boxes by 6-horse stage coach but that was quite a while ago.

I recently used Fastenal to ship a large item half-way across the country, so they definitely ARE still doing it. My item was about 200 lbs and loaded on a pallet. Cost me $160. Fastenal's freight service is Blue Line Freight - you can request a quote online thru Fastenal website.

Your box should probably be strapped to a pallet to make it easier for them to handle

Paul, my local Fastenal shut their doors late last year as a way to cut costs. Many stores are no longer using company owned trucks to ship their merchandise, so they are no longer taking LTL freight. Select stores still offer the service.

Good point.....I think Greyhound would be the most cost effective way to go.

Yeah, no way Greyhound will take a 240 lb box. They don't have forklifts, it's just porters lifting things by hand.

I have no personal experience w/them, but I've heard that Estes is good to deal with.

As to The Dog (Greyhound) NO! But it is too heavy
It took 7 weeks for me to receive a cabby door from Oregon (to TN)
They told me to file a loss claim when it showed. Had many stickers on it like a steamer trunk !
They only move things when spare space shows up on a bus.

Thank You. I sent a rear from MD to MO a couple of years ago. The receiver arranged for the shipping. I strapped the part to a pallet, had it picked up at a commercial address and shipped to a commercial address. He used fed ex express and it cost around $200.
