I have heard that ‘someone’ .... is making/going to produce the SPECIAL oil filter bolts/fasteners, which are needed to adapt oil filter to Burtz blk.

Anyone know details of this, or know where these bolts can be obtained ??

Stay tuned, I know they are working on it. I don’t know the price or who will be selling them. I had mine made by a machinist local. He used 7/8” hex in case I ever wanted to go the next size bigger pipe thread on the end. 3/4” hex is big enough for 1/4” pipe thread.

The "Special" bolts have been made and I shipped them to John Lampl last Monday. John should have them this afternoon.

They are made from 6061-T6 aluminum and the big one broke at 50 lb-ft.

John will contact all kit and flywheel buyers with details.

What size is the thru hole for the oil?

The large bolt has a 5/16 inch hole through the center to feed the main oil galley and the head is tapped 1/4 NPT.

The small bolt has a 1/16 inch through hole for an oil gauge and the head is tapped 1/8 NPT.

That should be large enough for the main oil feed.
I would think that for higher performance you might want it larger.

We used a non-hardened 9/16 Bolt, tapped a 5/16 hole through the bolt, and taped the head for 1/4 NTPF.

The pictures are of our first bolt. I was somewhat concerned with how deep the NPTF went into the bolt (past the head). We then welded another head onto the bolt for more material, and made a new bolt similar to the one shown, but with the two bolt heads. The block was tapped for a standard 9/16 bolt.

That one is installed on the engine, (last picture), torqued to ~40 ft Lbs, and works fine.

The bolt and thread are NOT 7/16ths. from memory the new bolt OD is .530 and the thread in the block is the 7/16 helicoil, that is .530 od.

The original Model A bolt is 7/16-14. The guide online for installing an oil filter recommend drilling the block to the size required for a 7/16” helicoil. Then tap the threads for a helicoil that is 14 threads per inch. You do not use the helicoil if installing a filter, but if you decide to remove the oil filter and install the original hardware, then you install a helicoil and the original bolt. Whatever works best for the user as long as all passages are at least 5/16” from the fitting where the oil exits from the middle side of the block through all of the fittings and filter head to the point where the oil returns to the oil galley.
