Exclamation Correct Hardware for 1930 Stanco Motometer Cap

I really wish that dealers would tell you when their reproduction parts do not fit the originals and I'm sure that I'm not the first person to discover this. First, the original meter has 3 thick gaskets, the reproduction kit has 2 and they are too thin so you have to double them. Now I've found that the reproduction allen headed bolts which lock the cap on to the radiator neck have heads that are too thick so they do not sit deep enough in the recess to be able to close the cap. I don't want to drill the recess out any more than it is because I fear it will ruin the casting. Does anyone have a work around for this besides finding the original type bolts?

Grind down the tops of the bolts?

you will not find good orginial allen bolts . Take a bolt that fits the thread size use a grinding wheel to round off the corners and fit in space ,cut the head size that will fit down in the recess and then cut a slot across the head for a screwdriver! It works for me.
