Default Firestone vs Lucas Tires

Other than price, does anyone see any noticeable difference in these two brands of tires. Wear? Ride? Handling? Anything? Thanks..

Default Firestone vs Lucas Tires

From what I’ve read, Firestones tend to have a stiffer sidewall (that could make the tire harder to install) and tend be a bit wider, which may make it harder to store one in a fender wheel well. I’ve read that some folks may partially deflate the tire for an easier fit in a fender wheel well.

I believe the firestones last longer and ride better than the Lucus, but not sure it is worth the price difference?

The Blockley Tires are absolutely the best made anywhere. They are more expensive. You get what you pay for.
Lucas sells all of Blockley's various size tires. EXCEPT tires for Model T's. They only stock tires they have made for them instead.

Nick. I had a set of Lucas.... sure did not last long...and were not
the best handling. Switched to Firestones.... very pleased with switch.
Cannot tell you how long the Firestones will last... been on 2+ years
and still look great.

like comparing a cheap ford to a Buick........

which cheesesteak tastes better, the 4.00 one from subway or the 10. one from a mom and pop?

they do both get the job done though

I've had both brands on a Model A and think the Firestones are way better than Lucas but as has been said above, I'm not sure the price difference is worth it but I figure the extra safety of the firestone is beyond measuring in dollars. I now run 5.25X21 firestones on my Model As. Road holding and road manners of the tyres is much better, especially in a cross wind.
Firestones for me (if I could get them)

The Lucas did not have the sidewall strength. Took them off and put Goodyears back. Went back to good handling.

Lucas, with name on the tire, are nylon cord, made in Vietnam. When installed in fender wells, they fit at 35psi. All are easier to install in wells when deflated some.

Firestones are polyester cord, later technology, with improvements as stated.

My local tire dealer was able to get me 4 new Firestone White Wall tires and is currently in the process of mounting them on the rims. I would have loved to have gotten 2 more for the fender wheel wells but will have to wait awhile for them. Out of the 6 Goodyear tires that were on the car only two were worth saving for spares. I bought new tubes and wheel liners for the new Firestones.

When my friend bought this Fordor in 2019 it had Whitewall tires circa 1974. He bought 5 Lucas tires and I've driven about 1100 miles, 600 in the last month. I have no complaints from the bias ply tire.

Of all the tires I have driven on Model As, Firestones were my least favorites and Goodyears were the best.

Drove a set of Lucas 22,000 miles with no complaints, but those were installed in 1987 so today's tires may be different.

Another vote for Blockley tyres.
They also make some very good quality tubes, but despite asking a few times, they have no plans to make a centre valve tube.

+1 on the Firestone fit in the fender well of my (former) '30 CCPU. Couldn't get the spare in at any significant pressure, and once in and reinflated couldn't get it out. Ended up carrying a 12V jump box and a small compressor in case I ever needed the spare.

If you have a rear mount spare I think it's largely a matter of cost. I thought they rode and steered well, but I've not driven on Lucas.
