Front and Rear Axle Attachment?
While reading the post about shocks, wind, and cornering, I was pondering. The body and fenders are attached to the chassis. What connects the chassis to the axles? If you don't have shocks, what other attachment points are there besides the front and rear spring. is the steering linkage the only other attaching point?
If so, it's amazing the body will even stay somewhat level at all. It seems there would be a great strain on the spring bolts. Is my thinking correct? |

Re: Front and Rear Axle Attachment?
You're right Bob, I knew there was something I was missing. But are the rear braces attached to the chassis or the torque tube? And, I can't see the ball on the wishbone doing too much stabilizing for body lean.

Re: Front and Rear Axle Attachment?
The two large U bolts front and rear are the only thing to keep the body setting level on the center of the springs.
The AA has two large springs on the outside of the frame rails, and it won't get tippy in the wind. |

Re: Front and Rear Axle Attachment?
It is a two point body mount. That's why the town sedans lean so much. A sway bar would be nice, but probably not worth the effort and cost.

Re: Front and Rear Axle Attachment?
That is why shocks so greatly improve how a Model A drives and corners.
