Folks,
Well Not sure if this thread is easy reading or being used for folks to fall asleep? But all of you have greatly exceeded my expectations for followers of the ragged ol truck as Mark has named it. I have most of the large projects done on the 32 Ford dump truck, so havent posted much lately. The horn and the kick panels are on the list.
John has been working every day on his glass and door repairs on his 42. While I hve a Allis CA tractor under the jib crane area, to improve the steering if possible. Still have deer hunting if I get my butt in gear, and maple syrup season and the darn taxes are right around the corner too.
Hope things are good in Ford land as we close out 2022 and quickly approach 2023! Happy New year a tad early!
Regards,
Chris

I think the armature is the only part of a model A horn that is not being reproduced. Uless that changed, Good ones can be hard to find.

Every part you rebuild can be painted before replacement. First thing you'll notice then it is all done! Newc

I have done a couple projects like that. It took me about two years to do my last large tractor project. It was like a huge orange jig-saw puzzel mixed in with orange wind-chimes! Was pretty happy when it was complete. The 32 staying in its work clothes still has been a while getting it operational.
Regards,
Chris

Not sure if I have commented on your thread before. In case I haven't, thank you for sharing your efforts to return the truck to good operational condition without significant modification. I get tired these days of "stock" vehicles that turn out to have high compression heads, multiple carburetors, dropped axles, etc. Your truck is refreshing to read about.

38 coupe, folks,
Thanks for the compliment. This truck would have been a canidate for a complete restoration and still is a great survivor at 90. As noted I am not much of a custom guy. Except for the fact that I don't follow all the stock / original rules either.
We have rain today so the truck will not come out again this year. Maybe next year.
Enough of the bad New Years jokes.
Happy New Year to everyone!
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
I had a chance to lay the old eyeballs on a really nice 37 big truck yesterday, in the local area. It is a stake bed, ton and a half, Maybe a 40 year old restoration, but looks good from a quick walk around. Trying to talk the guy into getting it out and showing it. No pictures sorry.
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Just a hint of my other life in the shop. A lot of orange. Sorry off topic:
Allis CA narrow front pulling tractor in the 2500 lb class. Working on improving the steering. another 70 year old chunk or iron.

New Ross sterring box with good tight feel:

Will try to source new lower pedastal bearing assembly. This was dragging some causing hard steering too:

Regards,
Chris

Chris,
Fell in love with this ‘37 parked in back of an ice cream shoppe in New Hampshire. It was just there for kids to climb on. Sign says 2700 miles. I got room in the barn for that......Happy New Year to you and your family.....Mark

Small town fire trucks are usually "low-milers". I bought a '48 Seagrave pumper out of Portage, WI about 25 years ago that had 2300 miles from new. Except for the paint which had been polished through and the second distributor which was messed up, it was in perfect shape. When I went down to pick it up, the guy I bought it from showed me his latest find, a 6000 mile 37 pickup with an auxiliary pump mounted on the front. It was in perfect shape and he wanted $4000. Unfortunately, only one fire truck at a time.

Mark,
If you have room that is a great truck! Get it!
These are large units and do take up some space for sure.
Regards,
Chris

But.... if it has a flatbed, are they really taking up space? The junk that is small and has to stay nice goes in the cab and all the big loose items are now up off the damp musty floor and piled neatly on the flatbed. And let's not forget tucking the snow blower, rototiller, lawn mower and weedwhacker underneath the bed. So in some ways you now have More storage.

Folks,
Had the 32 started and just backed out after a couple little things like plugging the vacuume line where the windshield motor connects. It seems to run a little better too.

Nothing special here, just a shot in the dark!

Thanks for checking in on me and the ragged ol truck! Hope things are good in ford land!
Regards,
Chris

Al,
Thanks! I really cant take any credit. The previous owners did a really nice job just setting this old truck aside for 70 years before we got it. I just turned 71 and it looks better at 90 than I do!
Ford Folks,
Well the content for this thread has slowed some, due to our winter weather and also the start of our maple syrup season. I need to get my head in the game and be ready for that first run of sap. Wood has been cut and dried. Sugarhouse is pretty much ready, just need to wash and rinse the evaporator and tanks. Then we will begin to string the tubing for the 625 taps that we have along the roadsides of our community. Tapping may begin in early Feburary. And the season could run in to April if the weather has freezing nights and warn days. As a small producer we try to keep it fun and have a lot lof friends and family in the sugarhouse.
Also working to make a low cost Allis CA tractor into a expensive one for pulling in the 2500 or 3000 lb class this year.
The truck waits, but I am looking forward to driving it to some local shows this year, within a 25-30 mile range.
Regards,
Chris
