Yes it is group 1 that the vast majority Of Model A folk use. Group 2 is actually a better fit but difficult to find.

Unless it is 12 Volt, then you need a Group 25

I tried a Group 2 ( same size as a Group 1 except slightly longer and it is higher capacity). It would not fit in the battery holder. IThe Group 1 drops right in like it was made for it (which it was).

By the way where did you find the group 2 battery?

From Bob's chart the original battery was 9-3/8" long, the group 2 dimension is 10-3/8. Sounds like it would be too long to me. FWIW, O'reilly's lists them for sale on their website.

My group 1 is a little sloppy in the battery holder, my group 2 is an absolute perfect fit!

Always have had good luck with F and F batteries, keep them charged and check level once in a while. Last one I replaced had lasted 5 years.

One issue is F and F is a Regional Farm Supply Store in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Michigan., batteries typically are not shipped so may not available everywhere.

]Thanks Carl , That is good to know!!! I run twelve volt and have Been measuring batteries on the shelf at wall mart for a decent fit before purchase . Now I will know what to ask for at the parts store . If asked what kind of car the battery will be for I won't have to say model A Ford ..

Interesting discussion. As long as the battery fits in the battery tray and is securely fastened down are there any advantages of either a group 1 or a group 2?

I've always used the group 1. My A always starts 2 or 3rd compression, but I do not drive in Winter.
