Hi Barners
I think i destroyed 3 coils.I measured 6 volts on both post of my coil. The engine runs about two minutes. Now measure drivers side post on coil and get 3 volts and engine will not run. What is my problem ? Could it be my alternator? No coil veggie |

Re: Veggie
Are you running a 6 volt or 12 volt system?

Re: Veggie
When it dies, quickly stick your finger in the carb, by the choke blade. It should be a little wet from gas. If it pops a little as it dies, you may be running out of gas.

Re: Veggie
I think it might be a electrical short in the ignition system ,something shorting out ,possible loose wires at the terminal block or amp meter,or behind the dash best of luck to you I hope that you find it

Re: Veggie
Ignition switch may be getting resistive (>1/2 ohm) or loose connections. Also point contacts may need burnished.

Quote:
Any possibility you have an external resistor on the Coil? That would half the coil voltage differential across teh coil posts to 3 volts. One side may show 6 volts and if the points are closed the other side would show 3 volts. |

Re: Veggie
Also consider: If the points are open with the ignition switch on and your meter was showing 3 volts across the coil posts, you then could have a bad condenser (shorted) , or another short with the wire going from the coil to the ignition points. With your points open or closed, your meter also should show 6 volts between the hot post of your coil and with the other test wire being grounded to the engine block.
