Default curious about engine number

Hi,

My 34 pickup has a later model 59 engine (number cast into bell housing), with a number stamped onto the intake manifold deck near the drivers side rear of the block. The number is preceded and followed by a start 99A-1094905. Here's a picture. What does this tell me about this engine?

Thanks, Jim

Back in 1961 I bought a 1947 Ford coupe that after owning a while felt that it was quite original. I was the third owner and it was still in the same city where purchased new. I pulled the heads one day to have them milled. While cleaning up the surfaces I found that the frame number had been stamped in the same location as yours. It had ;the stars etc.

Some states required it but most didn't.

Cool, so I take it this is the same as the frame number that the engine originally came from.

Thanks!

Not necessarily. That could be a rebuilt motor and when it was placed in a certain vehicle the # was stamped there to correspond with the number on the ownership certificate. Many states prior to 1955 required the vehicle to be registered by the motor #. In California the DMV required you to register a vehicle by the motor # in those days. Some rebuilders would stamp the # on the rebuilt motor that was on the ownership certificate to comply with California law. Ford did not put numbers on the motors at the time of assembly. The number was stamped on the transmission and then when the motor/transmission was dropped into a chassis that same # was stamped on the frame.

Thanks for clarifying TJ.

Ford stamped the stars before and after the vin numbers and engine numbers to help stop fraud concerning the years a car was made.
