Default LED lights

Has anybody changed out the dash lights on their 49 with LED's? My dash lights are so dull you can't see them, even at night.

Have you turned the brightness control all the way up?

Do they make small enough LED bulbs that will fit the OEM sockets?

I did that but was told on this forum that there is no brightness control on a 49. Its either on or off.

So you did in fact try to twist the light switch and it did not move?

What I did was pulled out the bulbs, took a screwdriver and pried out the plastic strip that is around the bulb socket. Nice bright dash lights now. I got that tip from the guys at Shoebox Central

I think 34 PKUP was making fun. Of course no brightness control. The light are dim and the fluorescent paint on the numbers wore off decades ago.
The dust protector plastic strip also gets very opaque .

On the back of my truck I have 4 red lights for runnung, stop and directional, plus 2 whit back up lights. The total cost was less than 75 dollars and the results id remarkable.

Ray, I did some experimenting with a spare dash cluster for my '50 using two different color LEDs. Can't remember the 2nd color (think it was green), but one was clear. I could live with either one. I purchased the LEDs from Superbrites. I haven't had time to install the cluster yet...but I will (someday!). These are 6V LEDs. I also removed the glass bulb filters as well.

Good luck, Pat

Re #6 above. Would the same remedy work on my "51 instrument cluster?
