Default 1937 pickup column drop disassembly

I have my column drop off the column, the detent screw removed, the key cylinder out and the chrome cap pulled off the end, but can't get the locking shaft out. There is a pin driven in to a key way that keeps the shaft aligned, do I have to drill it out? Any advise would help. Don Rogers detail on the 35-36 helped a lot, but this drop doesn't have the big hole with a pin, just a pin through the body to the key way.

Try drilling and tapping a small thread; put screw in and pull it straight out. If you don't drill too deep, you may be able to re-use the pin.

After fiddling with it I was able to drive the lock shaft over far enough that I could drive the pin out with a punch down through the hole left by the lock cylinder. I now have a pin that is broken off that works with the switch lever to replace. Would you recommend a roll pin as a replacement, or a solid pin?
