Default Introduction and trailer question

Hey all, I am relativily new to this site have posted a few times but never offically intrduced myself. My name is Andrew Jernigan and live in Baker, Florida. I have a 1929 CC pickup that I have owned for over 20 years and in the last 2 years finnally got it on the road. I joined a local club and am having a ball driving and going to shows, just really enjoy the looks and stories that people have to tell. I work for the State Game & Fish department and modeled my truck after my state work truck with period equipment and period decal. My question is that I am thinking of building a trailer to pull behind my truck with more tools and equipment along with a bear trap on it (one of my duties here in the Florida panhandle is dealing with bears and people with bear problems) and I was wondering if anybody else has built a trailer to go behind their model a. If so how about some pictures, might give me some ideas for mine. Thanks in advance. Andrew

I just finished building a a class 1 receiver hitch for my Vicky. And bought and assembled a small trailer (40 X 48 in) from Harbor freight. It is just a flat bed with a little ramp right now. My better half in paralyzed and the trailer is for her power chair. If ever thing works out I may enclose with sheet aluminum.

Don't know if that trailer would be big enough for your needs, but they are inexpensive and it pulls really well.

I will take some pictures and post tomorrow if you like. Phil

I saw this advertised a while back. Would have bought it if it hadn't been 6,000 miles away!

Phil, that hitch looks amazing!! Nice work.

I was interested in putting a hitch on the back of the Tudor so it can tow the 4H trailer in the Christmas parade and the U-Haul website gave me this-

"Your vehicle requires a custom-built hitch which we will gladly fabricate for you. If you are able to bring your vehicle to our Tempe, AZ Research & Development facility we'll provide you with a free U-Haul custom trailer hitch, including free installation, and a lifetime unlimited warranty in exchange for the use of your vehicle to fabricate the trailer hitch. We'll need the vehicle for two to three days. If you are interested in this offer please complete the form below and we'll contact you to schedule your appointment. This offer is only valid until one customer per vehicle can fulfill our requirements."

I wonder if anyone around Tempe is interested in this?

I also wonder if they would let you pull one of their trailers with it? I have a U-Haul hitch on one of my Explorers and they won't rent a trailer to me. -- go figure!

Check your insurance. A lot of the antique car insurance carriers have a cluase about no pulling a trailer with your antique car.

Second that ...

Do you have standard or classic car auto insurance ?

Check your policy - if in doubt then call your agent

Trailers usually have to be declared and insured separately
on your automobile policy.

Yes, yes, we all know, yadda, yadda.... That wasn't the question. Rather than lecture me or the OP on trailering with the Model A, will anyone like to provide any information pertinent to the post? If a Model A owner wants to pull a 4H float in the Christmas parade, then they're gonna do it. Wouldn't you agree it would be a whole lot safer with a trailer hitch setup like Phil's or U-Haul's than some rinky-dink setup?

Man, it's getting to where I'm almost afraid to post anything here anymore for fear of the "experts" jumping in with unrelated or unwanted information instead of useful help. Thanks, but no thanks.

Rather than call your agent and have him deny it later, ask for the opinion in writing ! Then there is no doubt in the future what you were told !!

Do a web search for Mullins, they are being re-produced and might fit your needs.

Question Re: Introduction and trailer question

This is a question for Bruce, Upstate NY
Following the thread posted previously - fitting a Harbor Freight trailer with Model A wheels. I am looking for the bearing numbers and hubs. I found a set of '32? hubs at Hershey and am looking for the bearings that fit a regular 5x4.5 in hub on another small teardrop style trailer.
Thanks,
Vic

U-Haul ?

I took my GMC Jimmy to that center to have a hitch and wiring
harness installed several years ago ....

They drilled into my factory wiring harness, they burned it up,
they burned up my car computer, then they tried to send me
on my way " at no charge " .....

U-Haul did over $2000 damage to my vehicle which resulted
in a new computer and factory wiring harness.

I would never trust U-Haul to do anything ....

By the way - they are ' self - insured ' .....
