Pop out ignition switch problem
Gentlemen: I just came in from the barn after "winterizing" my Late 1931 Wide Bed Pickup truck with some Sta-Bil, Route 95 Ethanol fixer, etc. Upon attempting to move the Pop-Out Ignition Switch to the "off" position, not only did the switch NOT pop out, but the truck kept on running!! I tried to shut the gas off with the firewall style valve; that slowed the engine down, but it did not stop running. Then, very cleverly (???) I pulled out the coil wire. My arm is STILL vibrating!! QUESTION: Do we have anyone who could rebuild/help me out with this problem? In writing this, the thought that the spring must have malfunctioned in some manner.
Thank All of You in Advance!! |

Re: Pop out ignition switch problem
I assume you've unhooked the battery!! Otherwise you're going to damage the.coil plus run down the battery.

Re: Pop out ignition switch problem
I just discovered the problem. You have to PUSH THE KEY IN to stop it. My bad. I am an infrequent driver, so this slipped my mind. Sorry to bother anyone with this, but I panicked.

Re: Pop out ignition switch problem
Well, at least it was an easy fix, and you also now know you have good spark from the coil.

BTW If you would have pulled the coil wire down out of the coil then you wouldn't have been shocked. Sounds like the tank valve needs to be fixed, as it must leak fuel to the carb, and it would be quite a bit if the engine kept running. |
