Default motor mounts

the hat shaped riser (witch is bolted on the frame) that the motor mount sits on, do all flatheads in vehicles sit on these risers? BIG MIKE

If you're refering to the rubber biscuit mounts, the answer is that most of them do. The later Ford 8BA types had a rectangular rubber/metal mount cushion that sets on an angle between the frame and the bottom of the water pump mount point. Mercury and truck models continued with round biscuit mounts a little later than the Ford passenger cars. There are several variations on the round biscuit mounts too and several mercury models used u-shaped spacers.

Does it look like this? this is the special washer that the upper mount sits in. 37-48 Ford, if so most suppliers have them. this picture is from c&gfordparts.

The washer sits on the frame then the large biscuit goes on top with another washer up against the water pump mount horn. The little biscuit goes underneath the frame with the bolt.

These mounts were common on L-head motors up till the 8BA blocks came out in 48 then they started to evolve with the trucks and Mercury. Ford passenger cars and the early 49 Mercury started with the rectangular types. Mercury went back to a new form of round types front & rear till late 1951 & 52.

Oh and C&G has pictures of a lot of the parts as was poster earlier.

This is my flatty 5 years ago, note the hat shaped bracket on the frame with motor mount's on top, before I put these in the engine sat level to the frame , when I installed these brackets it raised the engine up 2" at an angle, so this made the carb float sit at angle, and rear main seal in pan leak with the oil going to the back, (Ah my oil leak problem?) do you think I should take these Bracket mounts off? cheers BM

if removing the risers makes the block sit level and there is sufficient clearance elsewhere (radiator hoses) then remove the risers. Are the water outlets on the bottom of the block original to the vehicle? There are a couple of different styles of these that would also lower the block 33-34, 35. There should be an oil return tube at the rear main cap that assist the oil into the pan and away from the rear pan gaskets, when the engine is at angle, this also helps in preventing leaks.

That's an older motor than I would expect to see in a Bren Gun Carrier if that's what we are looking at. I would have figured to see a 29A or 19A type motor in there. Is that why it was adapted with the hat shaped mounts?
