8ba in 39 Truck.
Ok. Just a few more questions again. 1. Draft Tube. The one from the shoebox engine won’t clear the frame and water pumps. What should I do? 2. Starter plate. Bottom bolts into oil pan- any idea if these are 5/16 coarse or fine, or am I way off? 3. Steering. My drag link was hitting the oil pan. I was going to modify the Pittman arm and or flip the linkage around weld and re taper. Are there any other magic solutions. 4. I found out the hard way I need truck exhaust manifolds. Are there any specifics to them? I’m picking up a set tomorrow. Thank you all for getting me this far! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: 8ba in 39 Truck.
.
Well....At least now, we've got the picture size under control! When you go to change exhaust manifolds, be aware that the front two bolt holes on EACH side are one size larger than the middle and rear pairs of bolt holes. The rear and middle pairs are 3/8", and the front pairs are 7/16". I like the Armstrong shocks. DD Which oil pan does your engine have? If it has this big clean-out, it is a TRUCK pan. It should give you the most drag link clearance of all pans. If so, and that doesn't clear, you may have to modify that pan something like the pic below. . Re: 8ba in 39 Truck.
Thank you! I have the truck pan. I decided to flip and re drill the linkage at the Pittman arm. It seems to clear everything correctly. I’m glad I had a tapered reamer.
I did notice the 7/16 bolts on the front holes. If the linkage becomes an issue I think I’d rather modify it at this point instead of the oil pan. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oh. And I have 20+ sets of the Armstrong shocks, if anyone needs some.

Re: 8ba in 39 Truck.
Ditch the draft tube and use a PCV set up. Easy to do. Several posts here with photos and part numbers.
