Removing rust on block
What would be best way to remove rust on engine block. Rust is surface from leaking radiator hose. Thanks.
Tried to add photo today 8/14 but site asks for url. There's no URL, I would simply up load directly from PhotoShop if allowed. Not allowed. Thanks to everyone that responded. Will try the recommended methods & products. Last edited by Road Journey; 08-14-2020 at 06:52 PM. Reason: correct |

Re: Removing rust on block
is it dissembled? Is it painted? Will you be repainting it?
If it's disassembled I would use a light sand paper, or wire wheel. If it's assembled In order of effectiveness: If it's just a rust stain try soap and water first. A product like CLR or evaporust may help, may damage the paint. Soak a rag and lay if over it. Pictures would help if possible. |

Re: Removing rust on block
Like post # 2 posts, try soap and water with a Nerf soft bristle brush in an inconspicuous place 1st.
Check and see if evaporust/thermocure/ rust 911 is safe on paint. Whatever you come up with test it on a non visible part of the car 1st. CLR/vinegar/etc./anything you are supposed to wear rubber gloves is slightly acidic and would mar the paint |

Powdered wood bleach (oxalic acid) mixed with water. Available at most hardware stores. Doesn't mess with paint. Wet, scrub and rinse.

Re: Removing rust on block
Try an oily rag, I've cleaned my engine of coolant stains, dirt ,etc , it will clean and leave a shiny finish !

CLR or other rust removers will also work.
