New Thomas head script
For those of you that would consider buying a "Thomas" 7:1 aluminum head from Snyder, how adamant are you that it has the "Thomas" script on it?
My new one is ready to cut, but I would like a survey of how many people care about the script. Tod |

Re: New Thomas head script
Tod,
Our Speedster has an original Thomas Head, Side Cover and intake, all with the Thomas Script. If I was buying a Thomas head to replace this one, I would prefer the Thomas Script to match the other components. If I was buying one for performance on any other engine, it would not make any difference if it had the script or not. Bob |

Re: New Thomas head script
I think it should be on there. How else would it be identified as a "thomas" head rather than just some random high comp head.

Does it effect the cost/reject rate?

Re: New Thomas head script
If I was in the market for such a head I'd want with script.

Re: New Thomas head script
Exactly. If it's a homage copy of a period piece then most customers will it want to look like the original, including the script.
If you come up with a new head, particularly an improved combustion chamber design, some of which have been suggested on previous threads, then by all means put your own name on it. Cheers Juggs |

Re: New Thomas head script
I modeled up the script to cut it on the new pattern. I will leave it as is.
26Tguy, this is a new pattern. The old pattern had issues that led to casting problems as well as machining difficulties. Patterns should be left to patternmakers. Tod |

Re: New Thomas head script
The Thomas script is in place. I can make an Excel picture of it for posting, if someone can post it for me.

Re: New Thomas head script
You might think about casting the compression ratio and maybe your name so there is no confusion later. Even if it carries a different scrip from the original not everyone will know and may think at a later date that they are buying an original.

Re: New Thomas head script
I sent an Excel rendering of one view of my Thomas head to Juggler for posting in this thread.
The noticeable points of difference will be 1) a correct water-neck mating surface, and 2) a correct water pump mounting surface/size. Also corrected are draft areas on the water pump end and correct draft in the spark plug holes so that molds are not breaking on every head from now on. Adequate draft is actually put on the outside of the head also. This will allow the foundry to make a nicer looking casting. But these are not the main reasons I am re-making this. The current parts are passable, but when it comes to machining them, the pattern is bad enough to make it not worth my time to struggle through the difficulties caused by poor pattern design and poor foundry fixes to the problems.
