My 1928 Phaeton
I have been in the restoration / hot rod industry for 20 years now and I can finally say that i am the proud owner of a stock Model A phaeton. This is one car that has always been on my list of favorites.
It is an older restoration and is need of some maintenance and a little tlc. The car runs good other than a few small leaks so at least I know I have oil. the front shackles need rebuilt and a brake inspection are first on the to do list. This is the first real stock Model A i have had the chance to own and work on, and I couldn't be happier. If the weather is good I am going to pick up my son from school in the car on Friday. |

Good for you and your son. Rex, I sure hope that the weather is fine on Friday. If not, it will be a memorable experience when it happens.

Re: My 1928 Phaeton
very nice enjoy it:::
watchout for that rubber fuel hose going to the carb as the exhaust manifold is very close.. those inline filters also have been known to cause issues on a gravity feed system.. |

WOW, very nice.
Just for the record...I am up for adoption, PM me and I'll send my address, would like to be picked up in "that" car. Remember to get a pic of the event, we'd all love to see the little tykes face/reaction.

Re: My 1928 Phaeton
Yes, but I' pretty sure the exterior handles were introduced on open passenger vehicles in October, ...and were in full production by November of '28.

Re: My 1928 Phaeton
I placed an order today for a few items, the fuel line coming out of the firewall and the mess there is a big item on my to do list that change the fluids and check the brakes. the front suspension as well. the tires are showing some dry checking plan is to make sure the spares hold air and hope that they will get me around town till i can get a new set coming.
for right now i am not going to be picky on what is 100% accurate or not just going to drive it and have fun this summer. Concentrate on getting the big items done then on to the smaller stuff after that the details. I have been spending a little time on what fluids to use this is what i gathered so far off of here and other places. Motor oil 30w non detergent steering box 600w stp or grease. Transmission and rear end stp +gear 90w 600w or something equivalent. I believe there is straight 90w in there now it seam like it is. If i am wrong on this please let me know. |

Re: My 1928 Phaeton
You are going to get a lot of reaction on the motor oil. When I first started driving my 29 pu in the early 60's I was told to use #30 non detergent, and did for years with no adverse effects, or noticeable premature wear. After reading the huge amount of opinions, experience, and research facts that have been presented on this forum in the last few years I now will use anything that is available and says "oil" on the can. Just kidding, as soon as my remaining 5 gallon can of #30 non-det. (bought in the 70's) oil is gone, i will probably buy Rotella 10W40 to use. As for the rest of your list i would use what the better retailers sell as replacement fluids from the original.

Re: My 1928 Phaeton
I use a detergent oil in the engine and 600W for everything else, if it has a zirk fitting grease it often, can't hurt, wipe off excess so it doesn't get thrown everywhere.

Re: My 1928 Phaeton
The Phaeton is my favorite, you can really enjoy a tour with the top down. This picture is at the CCRG a few years ago when we toured through Yosemite National Park!

Re: My 1928 Phaeton
Hi Rexrogers, you have a very nice car there, enjoy it while the weather is nice. The steering box should take 600 wt. oil and not grease. Remember, never throw anything away and join a local club. You will get more smiles to the mile and more brains to pick.
