Default 33 gas gauge issues

My gas gauge used to read 3/4 when full, at least I knew I had a 1/4 tank left when showing empty. I had the gauge hanging loose while the dash was out for woodgraining, now when back in it doesn’t work at all. Suggestions to start troubleshooting please?

Possible slight leak in air line connection? The car needs to be driven to get it functioning.
